Tvcc 2014 - 2016 opinions & advice on all the tvcc adn program changes.

TVCC 2014 - 2016 OPINIONS & ADVICE ON ALL THE TVCC ADN PROGRAM CHANGES. Ok so I would like to get people honest opinions about all the flip flopping back and forth changes that TVCC has done in the last couple of years with there ADN program just to freshen your memory here is a list of the changes

1st: 2011 ADN Program total points up to 14 business computers class counted as 1 point

2nd: 2012 ADN Program total points up to 21 with 8 mandatory additional classes to be completed along with the 7 prerequisite classes.

3rd: 2013 ADN Program total points up to 14 ADN pathway. And total points up to 21 BSN pathway business computers no longer counting as 1 point.

Ok here is my opinion I think that with TVCC jumping back and forth every year changing their RN programs it makes them look like a very unstable school. I would not blame any one to wonder that if they are this unstable, how are the teachers and staff at this school? do they change assignment frequently on students like they change there program requirements so frequently??? I feel sorry for all the students who have spent time and money on the 8 extra mandatory classes that were required for 2012 to now only find out that they really did not have to take those classes for just getting a associates degree since now in 2013 they have decides to change there program for a 3rd time and create an ADN pathway. so do those students that spent all that time and extra money on all those extra classes get to be reimberssed there money for not even wanting a bachelor degree in RN in the first place??? this school seems unstable can any one give there opinion on this ?? is this a good school for an RN program ???? is this even a creditable school or is it a fly by night school that you see on commercials in between you are the father maury t.v. shows. If TVCC is legit. what in the world is up with all there indeciseveness on flip flopping there ADN program. It is making that school called TVCC look really really bad. do they not realize they have people obideing by there mandatory ADN BROCHURES and than the students are having to change there plans every time that tvcc decides to change there RN program eventually this is going to lead to major problems and trouble for TVCC. I defiantly could for see a law suit on tvcc hand if they keep this kind of DRAMA up. I will say in my opinion thought that I am glad to see that they have decided to make to different pathways for either ADN or BSN but there new point system seems a little etchy especially the rule about making an A on your 1st attempt at A&P in order to get 1 point and their other rule about getting 1 point for takeing 15 hours worth of classes at TVCC. that doesn't seem fair to the Dallas County students. and how come no student gets any points for already having a associate or bachelors or masters Degree or no points for already having a certification in the medical field like pharm techs, or xray techs or med assistants or dental assistants or mri tech. WOW REALLY NO POINTS FOR NONE OF THAT I heard Elcentro gives points for having a certification in a medical profession which is cool that they recognize your accomplishments and hard work. well these are just a few of my view points. does any one out there have any advice or any opinions about this im very open minded and am willing to hear your opinions may be you can change my mind about all this or may be you agree with me. just curious about what others feel about this??? talk to you soon take care.

I attended TVCC ADN program previously but was unable to complete the program due to a divorce. I am reapplying for Fall 2014. From my experience with the school I can tell you that the teachers are all very good. They are tough on you but that is a good thing because it will ultimately make you a better nurse. I know that when we were in clinical a with students from other schools (El Centro) it seemed like the TVCC students had better nursing skills and were better prepared to care for patients. The changes to the program are due to many hospitals requiring a BSN at minimum. TVCC wants to make sure that their graduating nurses are on the path to getting a BSN because that's what the job market is requiring. The program is very rigorous, professional, and turns out some amazing nurses. I would definitely recommend TVCC's ADN program.

hi tiff. hay when u say that The tvcc program is very rigorous, do you mean physically rigorous because of clinicals or do you mean mentally rigorous because of exams and book work?? or is it rigorous for both physically and mentally ?? and if it is both which would you say more rigorous the physically or mentally or are they both equally rigorous????

hi well I was reading on here that the cut off for this year over at el centro was at 27 points im at 24. and I choose to not take any more classes, because im starting to realize that I keep on takeing more and more classes and these rn programs keep changing there degree requirements and adding more classes for more points which means I keep on spending more money on classes its mentally, physically, and financially draining me at this point so ive decided that I will apply over at trinity valley and at el centro and at lone star college in Houston and just see who will except me with the classes I have completed at this point. hopefully one of them will if not im throwing in the towel. I feel like I gave it my complete hole heartedly best to obide by all of these rn programs requirements but they just keep adding more points and more class requirements and everytime I think ive done enough and im ready to apply for an rn program they add more classes so that they can make more money. let me just put it like this I have over 120 college credit hours and it still is not enough. it only leaves me at a guestimate of 24 points total. a lot of my credit hours are toward another degree but a lot of them are towards ADN and still not enough im wiped out if I do throw in the towel I will not feel bad because I know that I gave it all I could and gave it my best to try to accomplish this goal ive completed every single class reqyurement needed for the bachelors program over at tvcc so im hopeing I can get in over there if not elcentro or lone star in Houston but I doubt it will be elcentro since the cut off is 27 an im at 24. I refuse to take any more support classes I need to save energy money and brain power... lol for the classes to come when in the RN program. so we will see what happens any ways hope this helped you out.

Hi POLO! I am to trying to apply at El Centro and also MVC and tired of fooling with all this point stuff and gonna try TVCC is I can figure this all out!!!! I sent you a friend request, maybe u can help me out here :) I am on my 3rd year messing with more and more and more classes!!!!!! UGH! But for TVCC it looks like all I need is MIcro which I am taking this spring... Hope to hear from you sooon.

Hey I once shared your disgust with TVCC. I applied in 2012. I was through with prerequisites for the ADN and took extra classes trying to get more points. The cut off was 18 I had 15 never had a chance. I took 5 extra classes. Money wasted I thought at the time. However, I'm so glad I DID apply to Lone Star College in Houston. I got rejected by TVCC on Friday and accepted to Lone Star that following Tuesday!! I am now finishing my first semester of nursing school this Tuesday!! If you have 18 points why are you fighting for an ADN is beyond my comprehension. Thanks to that waste of time on those extra classes I only have a few more to do so I can bridge to the BSN once I graduate. So, I say this to say never give up keep looking. Yes, I miss Dallas some days. But, if I do come back I will be a nurse! And I don't have to keep waiting so, explore options B,C,D,&E!!

I just got accepted to TVCC. I was aware of the changes they had made to their program a few years ago. At first I was discouraged because I was going to apply that fall. When they bumped up their point system I found out why. It turns out that their previous graduates were missing required classes for their BSN. I was grateful that they added this since they made them an acceptable college for those earning a BSN after their ADN with the classes they added. By the end of this spring semester, I will have all my ADN & BSN pre-reqs. I also work for a Magnet Hospital and they are requiring all their nurses to have a BSN. My hospital is Presby. But I know for a fact that Baylor has the same policy, as well as many smaller hospitals are starting to follow that path. If you are just going to work in other places than a hospital, I suppose I can see why you would fuss about the added points. My goal is to be a nurse educator in the future, many of us are going beyond ADN degrees, these added requirements are being accepted by Universities like UTA and Texas Tech confirmed to me when I sat with their school counselor in late January.

As far as their program being legit, I believe it is. Two of my family members graduated from TVCC and they are outstanding nurses. Some of the nurses that I worked with went there too and they also suggested to go there as well, they only wished that this change had been made earlier when they attended so they could of transitioned into their BSN sooner. I applied for the el centro program, I felt they were more strict on their requirements and they have made changes since spring 2013 at least 3x. I also know that their program is good too. At this point, from experience, be happy with who accepts you and take advantage of their teaching for the benefit of your future, best wishes to all!

Thank you for your information. I will be checking into this program again. I had checked a while back but I needed alot of BSN classes at that time, I have knocked out about half. I am considering El Centro, Mountainview, and Trinity Valley. I will be thankful for anyomne who accepts me....

I'm in the lvn program there and it's extremely intense. As far as ADN, I'm glad I did lvn first. I don't know if I would have made it 4 semesters. I literally have zero time for anything.
