Tuition Reimbursement

Published

Just want your thoughts on this please. Started at this facility last Jan. 09. Closer to home, took a slight pay cut. Tuition reimbursemnt was part of the pkg they offered. I figured the tuition reimbursement would make up for the pay cut and being closer to home is a plus. They explained I was to turn in my tuition payed for 2009 on Jan 1, 2010 and they would cut the check within a week. Anyway, Dec 28, 09 we all received an email telling us "we are no longer going to be offering tuition reimbursemnt." This is RETROACTIVE. I think this is very inconsiderate to promise something, then wait until 3 days before you are supposed to turn it in and say "sorry". This is money we were to get based on the 09 time we worked, not 10, and we counted it into out budgets. Anyway, I am very disappointed. Just wonder if I am viewing this wrong, or if it is an indicator of things to come. Anyone else experiencing anything like this? Thanks..

I signed an agreement that says the hospital has the right to revoke it at any time. Do you have documentation that spells out the hospital's obligation?

They did not tell me this. They said there is "fine print on the back of the policy" that says that, but that was never mentioned to me, and if I signed anything, I certainly am unaware of it.

In most states-unless you are unionized-"they" can do whatever they please. We suddenly lost our tuition reimbursement early last fall just 3 days before the term-without warning. They did restart it this year after changing the requirements. In this economy anything can happen. I work in a county run home-the commisioners are accepting bids now for a third party management firm to run us- I think I'll be lucky to still have a job in a few months...

That's what we were told. At least we still have jobs!! Guess that is a good way to look at it, but still, would have been nice to have been told before Chrismas...
