Good morning!
Probably 20 years ago I stopped doing Christmas cards. I now probably get only two every Christmas. Kind of miss it, kind of don't. Best friend creates one of those newsy "what happened this past year" kind of letters to send and has a picture him usually doing something fun like at the beach or somewhere on his travels.
Stars, that's a nice gesture from your SIL.
Dianah, I hope the insurance pays that 5K!
I made the Tuscan white bean soup yesterday and it was good. Funny I was just thinking as I was making coffee "I forgot to put tomato paste in the soup". I have some left over and will add some for flavor, although it was good without it. LOL
It's a bit chilly these days and a cold front is moving through that will make it colder, but it is late November isn't it?
Going to see some exhibit at the museum that best friend got free tickets from the library to see.
Jimminy Crickets! Chocolate Fudge! For Pete's sake! Crapola!
"Good Morning!" she said, with not just a little sarcasm. During the night Nannie got up, changed all her clothes and put on pj's minus the pull-ups and pads. So, of course the bed is soaked all the way through again. That's two or three BIG loads of laundry, which includes three sets of clothes in addition to the sheets/blankets, and all the towels SIL used yesterday when she washed and permed Nannie's hair. *sigh* But at least SiL vacuumed up all the hair from the floor after the hair project, so there's SOMETHING I don't have to do today. w00t?
It is 51 degrees, very sunny, and windy.
After Nannie gets deeply into her after-breakfast nap, I am going to take Momo on the ride over to the thrift store to drop off stuff, then to the bank to see if their computers are working. I need some CASH!
Oh, and as of last night, the ceiling lights and fan in Nannie's room are not functioning. I looked in the power box and nothing appears to indicate a fuse switch flipping. The washer and dryer, and the nightlight are still working, though. Have to leave a text for BiL about it. (another *sigh*)
The dead leaves in the yard are more than ankle high, but I don't know if the neighbor who does our lawn is going to come over to mow and mulch them up. Personally I don't care, but Nannie has already made three remarks about them in 10 minutes. But I would rather the neighbor come and do it, because I know he needs the $$, and BiL isn't wild about the idea of having to do it. Maybe it will work out nicely on its own....a good gale of wind could make it all fly off into the woods on the North-East side of the yard. Or not.
Maybe we'll have spaghetti and meatballs for supper. Ain't had that in a while and it's easy enough because I use HUNT's canned spaghetti sauce to which I add a tablespoon of soy sauce which gives it a little oomph. Just have to make the meatballs and boil the spag. noodles, and voila! Maybe will pick up a baguette to do some garlic bread, too.
I was 'bad' again last night, and stayed up til 2:45 AM. But, I gotta say, I enjoyed it! The only thing is ...it makes the days a lot shorter when I get up at 11 AM.
All for now----
Afternoon. I will not be grumpy. I will not be grumpy. I will not...
Temps down to 28 last night and foggy, so everything was coated in frost. The dogs slipped and slid across the deck when they went out the first few times. I deferred my usual Tuesday bike ride. We expected the roofers to be here, but they are coming this afternoon. Something about waiting for the shingles from the warehouse. The electrician is coming Thursday, and fingers crossed that the replacement ceiling fan arrives in time for them to install.
But that is not why I'm grumpy. dh insists on the TV in the living room being on, but he is in another room, behind me, with his back turned. But yet, he wants me to keep up a conversation with him. So I am repeatedly jumping up, walking into the other room, and asking him to repeat what he just said. Wash, rinse, repeat. He has been micromanaging the roof repair, the electrical repair, and the insurance settlement, by repeatedly calling, emailing, and texting them. I am waiting for someone to tell him to back off. And he wants to print every email and document we are being sent. But the printer is offline, and he can't fix it, and keeps muttering behind me, and all I can hear is some talk show that no one is watching.
Otherwise, I am washing clothes, laughing at dogs, and trying to read the paper online. Trivia tonight.
BiL came over and showed me where the hidden wall switch is, and turned the ceiling light and fan back on. I had searched the walls for a switch, but didn't think to look behind the metal shelving Nannie has loaded down with boxes of romance novels. I guess Nannie once knew where it was, since she's probably the one who turned the light off that way the night before. ?
I have to find out what to do with the hundreds of not empty, but not usable, spray cans of stuff, household chemicals, and dead batteries, because I know not to put them in the regular trash or recycling bins....but meanwhile I am corralling them a few at a time, in a cardboard box. I'll call out trash collecting company and ask them. I also have two dead vacuum cleaners to get rid of, and lots of as-yet-undiscovered items!
Every time I see the ads on TV for beds/mattresses, and for Sketchers' slip-on shoes, I sigh....because those are the things I was planning on Nannie and I getting hubby for Christmas. And then there's the times when I read something in one of my magazines or books, when I say to myself, "Oh, I'll have to tell him about that." and then realize I can't. Weird moments.
I would much rather be able to go to a restaurant to try some foods, but, alas, I am not willing to drive to Charlotte to find restaurants and grocery stores specifically for 'foreign' foods. So, I did get the following packaged foods from a Food Lion store: Thai-style Pad Thai, Japanese-style Teriyaki, Vietnamese PHO, Indian Kashmir Spinach (to put on rice), Egg-Flower soup mix (I could actually make that myself; it isn't hard, but I said "what the heck" and put it in the basket, too.) I also got Indian Palak Paneer, and Fusion-Asian mixed vegetables. (Tweety, feel free to ? peep up with any food suggestions here)
Whenever I get to travel back up to Asheville, I want to go to some of their restaurants and ethic grocery stores. I also want to go to Ingle's grocery store, because they had started to ramp up the # of offerings they sold in the store I shopped in up there, and it was really GOOD stuff. Of course, I am sure Covid has affected things like salad bars and other things. I'm going to have to do something with Momo if I go any time soon. Well, time enough to figure that out, as I won't be attempting to travel back up there until well after Christmas, and it also will be determined by the weather coming across the country!
It's dark, it's time for the news, and I gotta wake Nannie up to eat something.
Ta-ta!
I was sitting at my desk, deep into a spreadsheet, about 4:30 when the power went out. Of course we switched to generator power but I was mildly surprised that I could keep using my computer. *Apparently*, I have battery backup that lasts about half an hour. Finally gave up and came home. Hubs started setting up the generator but the lights came back on. It's always something.
After the power went out I saw I had received a text from the boss that the city manager had sent a notice that the power would go out in about 3 minutes because "a connection on the north circuit that includes the hospital and 1/3 of the city is burning."
Keep in mind it's a very small "city."
Sister went home from the hospital today.
Made a new soup: cream of celery. I had celery and I had some heavy cream. Recipe called for chopped onion, minced garlic, diced potatoes. S&P, parsley, fresh dill. Saute onion, garlic, potato in 2T butter. Add broth and spices, cook till potatoes are done, then add cream. Supposed to blend all before adding cream, but I didn't. We will have it tomorrow.
I got 2 loads of wash done, and did a little cleaning. Got cat on my legs now.
Ado, good your sister is home, hope she does well. Hope your power is on!
No Stars, sorry to hear about all the laundry generated from Annie's latest shenanigans. I keep thinking of things I want to share with my sister, too -- and she died in March. I think it's part of the process when one loses a loved one. (((((((( No Stars ))))))))
Tweety, how was the museum? Hi to Smiling George!

Have a good evening!

Dianah I hope insurance can help with the bill
Ado glad your sister is doing better
Stars that's good that you'll be getting relief once a week
Work was quiet yesterday, no new cases, no one off, nothing unusual. Hoping for the same today, though we do have a meeting
Rest of the day was pretty quiet too, exercised and worked on Christmas cards. A good day to reflect on the year to come
Today after work will do the same, and work on Christmas gifts for the niece and nephew, since I finally got some info from my sister on what to get them
Another cold day in the 20s. Will warm up after today although snow/rain expected
