Good morning!
Joe, hope you have a good day and your mood improves again as the day goes on.
Dianah, welcome back. Sounds like a good time. Hard to believe there are places with a population of 18!
J22, sorry you missed out on your bike ride. Funny the things we look forward to now. I remember as a young adult how pathetic I thought it was to stay home on a Saturday night and not have a party life. Now I rarely go out.
Slowbro had good news at the vet in that the new regimen of two drops, even with the missed drops when I work, are really helping his glaucoma. He has one good eye left and it seems his cataract is going to get to him son, but that at least isn't painful.
I've been in a pessimistic mood the last day. I'm quite bummed with inflation and the stock market. My retirement funds are dwindling and my contributions are being erased as soon as I contribute. I've seen $80,000 disappear since January and it's not going to get any better.
My homeowners insurance company is in liquidation and I have three weeks to get another insurance. Problem is that it's Florida and between Hurricane Ida and some massive fraud homeowners is through the roof and I'm going to be paying a whole lot more. I'm hoping to get into a state sponsored program that hopefully won't be too much more expensive, but it's supposed to be a last resort for people that can't get insurance elsewhere. We'll see. In the meantime I have to get an inspection all over again. This situation greatly depressed my pessimistic mood.
I'm going to the dentist for my crown today. On top of that another old crown fell off while I was using my water pik. Hopefully it can be re-cemented, but my pessimistic mood has me worrying about tooth decay and that he's going to have to give me a filling and a new crown which is what's happening today with the other tooth.
Sorry to be such a downer. I did go to the beach for sunset last night and after a bit was able to relax some.
Good morning all!
Joe, good your MA license is finally coming through. Good to hear your mood is better. Yay to good BP and weight!
Tweety, bummer about the insurance! Somehow it sounds like a racket. But it's necessary to have the insurance! I hope you can find one that's affordable. Hope today's dental visit is productive (= NO NEW SITUATIONS!). And what can "we" do about the stock market??? It does make one nervous, at the very least! Beach is a good mood stabilizer.
Slept well, it was nice to not be cold at night, LOL! The cats are all glad we're home. The (aggressive) manx (gray tabby) is sitting on my shoulders, reaching for my food as I bring it up to bite.
I called last night about jury duty, and was instructed to call again today between 11 and 12, in case our group is needed. At least I got to sleep in and won't spend ALL day at the courthouse.
Have a good day!
Some photos from the trip:
Just outside Parkfield (cattle country!); ranch house in the distance.
Warning to campers!

Got to listen to this WONDERFUL jam! Such talented pickers and great vocals!
Ooh, Dianah, those are great pictures. Nice to hear that you had a good time. the 30s is mighty chilly for May.
Joe, good news about wt. and BP. I am sort of dreading that part of my upcoming appt. It just always feels so judge-y. No one ever comments about good heart or respiratory rate.
Tweety, no! Not more dental work! I hope what ever you need is minimal. I am so thankful that I've not had any major issues. One of the few good genes I have, I suppose.
Hi Stars, it was nice to read that you are still around. The book must be good!
I just got back from a nice bike ride, although the return leg seemed straight into the wind, puff, puff. Still, my average speed is a little better, so I think my recent bike fit was successful, and my sacrum and leg is hurting less. I saw several herons flying along the shore, and a young eagle following some mallards as they flew along the creek. Traffic is picking up around the bay, as tourists come in to stay at the various cabins and timeshares.
If the weather would just warm up, I would feel more motivated to work in my garden. In perusing the latest electrical bill, I see the average temp has been 4 degrees colder than last year. 55 is the predicted high. Brr.
Good afternoon~
I made it here earlier today! Not to say that I got up early or anything, but at least I am not trying to post at midnight or later.
That said, there isn't much going on right now.
dianah, I really enjoyed the photos ("Be Here When It Happens"---YIKES!) and the descriptions of your trip; sounds like it was a good time. I will listen to the jam in a little while; I generally keep the sound off when I am on line~ I don't want to wake Nannie up from her after-lunch nap.
Tweety, Ugh, dental woes; HATE 'EM! I don't know how many dentist's kids I have sent through college, y'know? Hope your second cap doesn't involve a lot of work -- a simple re-gluing would be nice... '' // Glad Slow-Bro is doing okay. // What a P.I.A. about the homeowner's insurance! Very rude of the company to go belly up; hope you can find something reasonably reasonable, within the short warning they gave you. GAH!
j22, You didn't put anyone to sleep with your presentation, did you? I hated it having to do a presentation that was part of a your grade in class. Not really nervous about public speaking, however. I did get an A in one presentation when I was in college. Nothing to do with nursing, however. But in nursing school, I aced a presentation about how the kidneys work ... complete with a chalkboard illustration I did in colored chalk. Plus, if I was afraid to speak publicly, I wouldn't have been very good at the "Animal Shows" I did at the museum when I was Animal Room Curator. Still, I would have hated to be a teacher. The animals used in those 20 minute 'shows' kept people interested...usually a snake, a possum, a bird of prey, a tarantula, a ferret...about 5 animals per show. With each animal, the audience got to pet or touch the critters, which was always fun.
Speaking of snakes, the guy who mows our grass found a very LARGE snake skin shed on a bush down at the back of the back yard....over six feet long, and apparently FAT and sassy. Didn't get the tail end of it so I couldn't tell if it was poisonous or not, but I suspect not; my best guess is it was a very good hunter, a very well-fed Rat Snake or King Snake.
Joe, I can't believe how long the Mass. license is taking to process! // I also had a bit of a funk yesterday, don't know what set it off, but it didn't last too very long. It may have been a deja vu that hit me while we were watching Pale Rider (an old Clint Eastwood flick), just a curious feeling that made my stomach sink and then puzzled me, and disappeared when I tried to figure out what or why. The puzzlement at it's onset occurred toward the end of the movie. Whooooo knows, but it wasn't a pleasant feeling while it lasted.
Hope amo-Lu and BCg are doing okay; their posts have been missed! I get to feeling a tad guilty when I miss a few days of posting, but we all know that life throws us curves every-so-often. And sometimes these "blabber-mouth" fingers are in a mood not to blabber.
Have to go to see the folks who fit me with my hearing aids...tomorrow at 1 PM is my follow-up appt. Guess I will get out my cleaning kit and replace the ear wax filter and the cones. (Remember the Cone of Silence on GET SMART?)
Anyway, for now I will stop here and wish youse all a good evening. I will be back tomorrow, can you even stand the wait? ?
Well I got ready and drove to the county courthouse at 1230, made it through metal detector, reported to the jury assembly room --- and was informed the case had been settled. So I picked up some food on my way home, and dh and I just finished a late lunch, and watching "Why Didn't They Ask Evans," a new series on Amazon prime. I think there are only three episodes; we have seen two. It's based on an Agatha Christie book. It's pretty involved, I have to pay attention. Set in the 30's in rural England.
Have a good evening!
Joe, hope your day continued to get better. A bit warm here translated to, I think 94 degrees. But at least no storms, although that my be coming.
dianah, love the pictures!
Tweety, glad Slowbro had a good checkup. That's harsh about the insurance company going belly up. I try to ignore the fluctuations in my retirement account but Hubs noticed the amount today and got worried. Good luck with the crown(s).
Did I tell that Twin A brought me a begonia because they were selling them at the zoo and his coworkers told him he needed to buy one for his mother? I planted it in front where my hostas are. We shall see if I can keep from killing it. I need to do something to keep the snails and slugs from eating the hostas. I've read that diatomaceous earth works.
Saw my therapist Friday and discussed sleep issues. He made some common-sense suggestions and I'm trying. No screens after about 9 pm. I can read a paper-and-ink book. Etc. So Friday night after midnight Twin B comes to our room and says he smells smoke. We do, too, and it seems worse in our room and bathroom. It is hard to sleep when one is wondering if there will be a fire or carbon monoxide. Once we were fairly certain we were safe, we did sleep in the living room while our room aired out. Something to do with the motor on the A/C fan. A little over $400 later, it works again. Makes me curious about the smoke alarm, though, so that's something to check into. May just need a new battery. Saturday and Sunday I ended up watching a movie with Hubs so was up later than intended. But I will stick to this and get better at a bedtime routine. Also started taking half an allergy tab and using flonase again because my allergies are making me miserable.
Hubs just called. Sounds like it's pizza night at home. At least I don't have to cook ?
Shouted from the upstairs, to me in the downstairs (den):
Hubby: Where's Nannie?
Me: The bathroom.
H: Did she go to bed?
Me: No, the bathroom!
H: I asked if she was going to bed!
Me: I said SHE WENT TO THE BATHROOM
H: Is she GOING TO BED?
Me: I DON'T KNOW She said she was going TO THE BATHROOM!
?Married life.
We've been here at Nannie's tooooo long. If she is not in her chair, there are only so many places she could be: the bathroom or the bedroom.
{ I shoulda said she flew to Nova Scotia.}

Tweety hopefully Slowbro's appointment went well
NJ22 hope your presentation went well
Dianah that sounds like a fun time, and an interesting area
Hi Stars
Yesterday was a pretty good day. My mood improved as the day went on. Work was fine, even had time to help coworkers. Found out the MA license is just about complete, at long last. And the doctor's appointment went well, blood pressure and weight down
Woke up a bit earlier than usual, sorta fell back to sleep. Might have been a bit warm last night
Yesterday was kinda down, today kinda anxious, no particular reason. Hopefully this too will quickly fade
Should be a fairly ordinary day
Going to be quite warm, in the upper 80s, will probably have to put on the air conditioning
