Tweety hope the 3 12s go well.  Thanks for sharing the pictures

Stars a counselor and AA would likely be helpful but doesn't sound like he's ready yet

Dianah that does sound like a nice wedding

Ado that is quite a few resignations for a small hospital

NJ22 hope that the ablations helps

Yesterday was one of the slowest days at work I've had in months.   Kinda dull but also relaxing.  Hoping today will be similar

Rest of the day was fairly quiet too, did some errands and exercised.

Tonight the church group is going out to dinner, going to a place I haven't been to in years.  Will try to get a walk in beforehand

Going to be fairly cold here again, mid 40s although the rain and snow should hold off

J22, that sounds hopeful regarding the ablation. Fingers crossed!

Joe, the occasional slow day is indeed relaxing.

Still catching up (emails are the worst)

Hello all!

nursej22, I also hope all the naughty spots were located and burned away!!  Hope your tummy is better today, AND that your endurance will improve (once you are cleared to exercise)!

Joe, enjoy your meal with the church group!

Well, last night was one of "those" nights.  Woke up at 3:30, didn't get to sleep till after 7.  Oh well.  Not much planned for today.  Was going to run over to a friends' house and drop off a book I thought they would like.

It's clear out, though should have rain by tomorrow, for a couple days.

Have a good day!

Good afternoon boiz and gurls~~

Yep, you guessed it -- same old-same old. Hubby came in from the Ford a short while ago, obviously had been drinking. I asked if he'd taken his 2 Ativan this morning and he said he had. I asked how much he has had to drink, and he said, "Just two little bottles." (Oh well, "just two". Good grief.) "The doctor has told you not to drink if you are taking Ativan." No reply from him. I've said nothing more, and he is laid back in his recliner with his eyes closed. He's going to the doc again on Thursday at 11:30 AM which I doubt he remembers. I'm going to tell the doc that if hubby's still drinking AND taking Ativan, he doesn't need another prescription. I'm guessing, also, that my slacker-hubby won't be calling anywhere today to find out about AA mtgs, And will he agree to that counselor? Doubt it. And has he called the DMV to find out where he can go get his driver's license renewed? Naaah! And he certainly won't be going to the DMV today in this condition, for sure.

I'm going upstairs to my room to make my bed, and see if I can get a start on putting away the clean clothes and tossing out magazines, and maybe shredding paper.

Later~

Good afternoon. The sun is out, and if the ding-dang wind wasn't blowing it would almost be warm. Thank you all for your well wishes. I am a little bored, because dh is watching me like a hawk, to make sure I don't overdo. Mostly I am looking at my computer, and walking back and forth to the medicine cabinet to see what I have that might help the discomfort I have. We went for a little dog walk, with hubby holding the leash because I am not supposed to lift more than 10 pounds and dog weighs 25. When he gets snarky around other dogs I usually scoop him up. We went to our respective pharmacies, me for a new one, and dh for refills. I am allowed to carry the pill bottles. And we went to the grocery and I wasn't allowed to carry a bag of groceries.  I am going to make massaman curry tonight and I needed veggies. I still feel goofy, and even though the discharge papers said I could drive today, I won't. I still feel a little hyper, but tired at the same time. Ick.

Joe, a slow day at work is okay occasionally , but it sure can drag. Enjoy your dinner out!

Dianah, you should have called me, I was awake! Although not likely making any sense.

I do hope Tweety is pacing himself through is 3 12s.

NoStars, I don't know if you saw this in the General Nursing Thread about sober curious living. https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2015/04/the-irrationality-of-alcoholics-anonymous/386255/

I think the thread is a little weird, but I found this article fascinating,

And here is the link to the TED talk:

j22, thanx for the links; I will look at and listen to them later this evening. The network news is about to start, so....

PS: I got over half of the monster-sized-clean-laundry-pile hung up and put away. I collected a large box of clothes (NO MORE SIZE 18's!?) and books I've finished reading, delivered it all to the store that sells 2nd-hand stuff and supports a local women's shelter. Feels good. But I still have some tossing out, shredding, rearranging to do. But I am patting myself on the shoulder for what I got done today.

G'day.

Thankfully I started with 4:1 ratio.  Discharged all four of them and got 3 admits throughout the day.  Got it all done.

I can see how the Sinclair method would be attractive to alcoholics that still want to drink.  But data on the success rate is hard to find but interesting.

Admittedly the "cure rate" in AA is not altogether that good, but I think no matter what the program, people relapse.  The TED speaker belittles the fact that AA has helped literally millions of people around the world.

Remember too it started in the 30's I believe.  As medical science progresses I can see it being unattractive to scientists as it is more of a spiritual program.

No, I agree, AA doesn't cure alcoholism. I was thinking about maybe he'd meet some people he can talk with. As it is, neither of us have any actual 'friends' here, and I think it affects him more, because he has always had 'PALS'.

I wasn't suggesting AA "cures" alcoholism but you can't argue that it's helped millions of people quit drinking through abstinence.  I for example started in AA and have stayed sober.  That being said, I was a "take what I need and leave the rest" type of person.  I've never bought into the whole program.  The friendships took a long time for me as an introvert to find but they were invaluable in my recovery.  It would only be good for your husband if he considered abstinence which he seems unwilling to do or he would do the medical detox his doctors ordered him.

But in 2023 as the science of alcoholism has been researched more, I can also understand there are alternatives out there.  AA isn't for everyone.
