Good morning!
Ouch J22, hope the post fall soreness isn't too bad.
I'm reading a light hearted mind candy book "The Guncle Abroad" which is a sequel to the book "The Guncle". "Guncle" is shorthand for "Gay Uncle" it's about a man who is traveling with his niece and nephew around Europe while their father prepares to remarry a woman the children hate. The first book was set five years earlier when their mother passed and they spent a Summer with their uncle while their father went to rehab.
We're supposed to get some rain so no beach time these days off. It will be a relief to get rain and not be so hot. May set a record as the hottest.
What a wonderful (NOT!) morning! Momo woke me up barking. SiL was here and sent me a text that she was going to get the yard mowed before she got Nannie up and dressed. A short while later, she came upstairs and said Nannie had walked out in the yard to see her (without her walker), and she fell. So I got dressed and went down to help get Nannie up off the ground. Now Nannie is c/o her left wrist hurting, and it is a little swollen. The mower kept stalling out, so SiL came back in and decided to get Nannie dressed. I called the doc's office to see if she can get her wrist xrayed there, and am waiting to hear back from the nurse to see if they can fit her in. We were thinking it might be faster than having her go to the Urgent Care. I suggested to SiL that they wrap her wrist with an ace-wrap instead of a cast. Don't know if y'all remember when Nannie broke her right wrist a number of years ago, and she removed her cast something like 18 times that first day; then they put a "patient proof" cast on her that "nobody has ever been able to remove" and she had that off in one hour! So we are waiting to hear back from the doc's office. Funny how yesterday when I wrote 'cast', spell check changed it to "Cathy" !
So, I have my check from the iL's, and need to go to the bank and the other things on my list. Right now, because the lawn-mower has quit again, she has come back in and is calling the urgent care center to see if they can see her, since we have yet to hear back from the doc's office. There's "nobody in line" at the urgent care center, so she is taking her over there where they already have Nannie's Medicare and supplement cards on file.
Thank God SiL is here to take care of Nannie and her injury, as it is supposed to be my 'day off'. HUH!
Last night I 'did a Tweety' 😉, because I fell asleep while reading, and woke up with the light on and the book in my lap. I did have the presence of mind to take my glasses off and put them on the bedside table! And after I turned off the light I was sound asleep again, until SiL called me and then I woke up.
Okay, it is almost 1 PM, so I am going to gather my stuff and get on my way---
Hello all!
Joe, that sounds like a good book (I had to look it up). The walking is good for "us," but being without a car makes other things difficult.
Tweety, your book sounds good too! How is bowling going?
No Stars, I hope Nannie's injuries are not serious. Of course, it HAD to happen on your "day off." I hope you were able to do what you needed to do.
We have not much planned for today. I am starting the book "1776," borrowed from a friend, about the year 1776. Friend says it is good, with character developments for all the main players in the American revolution. I am so used to my kindle, I have to arrange to read a "real" book, with my special neck-lamp. Oh, and a bookmark, don't forget to put in a bookmarker!
Hope you all have a good day!
Joe, I quite enjoyed Remarkably Bright Creatures. I kept thinking it might not be really deep literature but was an enjoyable read. Tweety's books sound good, too... may have to look for The Guncle.
My book club is reading a memoir called Gorilla and the Bird, about a guy who was a public defender in NYC and had a psychotic episode. It's interesting, a little troubling to read because of our experiences with stepson. How this guy's mother was able to be so involved is a mystery to me, except that maybe he allowed it, something stepson wouldn't. Maybe that first time he would have and we dropped the ball. The boys were young (9?) and I let Hubs deal with most of what was going on with stepson at the time. This book came from a special collection at one of the OKC-area libraries that is a packet for book clubs to check out, with a certain number of copies of the book and a discussion guide. So I have an actual book and I've stayed in the living room to read a couple of nights so I wouldn't disturb Hubs by having a light on. I fell asleep on the loveseat last night and woke up when Twin B came home from work (and it was time for me to get up) and had 2 cats sleeping on me.
Good afternoon. I am listening to a book from the library. They use a phone app called "Libby". The book is No Two Persons . It was a little slow to start, but I'm getting into it. I took one of two of dh's Percocets last night, and I plan to take the other one tonight. I'm a little stiff this morning, but not bad. I have a bruised elbow and a bruise beside my sacrum. And my ego. I went to PT and the PTA was fussing about my fall, but kept her I was there for my knees.
Dianah, I have 35 roses, down from 45, all colors. The ones blooming now are orange, dark pink, white, and light pink.
Good Grief, Stars, your week sounds like a real s*** show. I remember the circus around Nannie's last wrist injury. Too bad Urgent Care can't get the UA.
For me, grocery shopping is the biggest issue when I don't have a car.
I toted the urine spec to the doc's but told them I don't know how clean of a catch it was because she couldn't wait for me to wash her down, so.....anyway!
SiL called me and said the Urgent Care Ctr said she had a "small (hairline?) fracture" of her left wrist, and she has to go to the Ortho doc, but doesn't have an appt until Thursday. SiL will take her to that appt, and I will remind her to tell them to look up her last visits with them so they will know they are dealing with a 'Houdini'-type patient. So, the CG for Thursday has been cancelled because her time is 1-6 PM. SiL will come over and help get Nannie up and said she can take her to her appointment. Yuh, so there goes another time off for me. Don't it just figure!
SiL is trying to get me to think about switching to Medicaid for myself, but I am not at ALL sure I want to do that. She said she would get me some information about it. She says I can still go to my own doc, but still....unless Medicaid has changed a lot....I dunno.
I called a place I saw for 30 day trial for these new hearing aids...I was hoping it could be one that just hides in the ear-canal instead of over the ear. I told him that chewing or talking always seemed to make the hearing aids lose 'traction' and partially or fully come out; I also told him that the one thing I hated about the over the ear kind is that it makes me hear my hair moving against itself or the thing hanging behind my ear. After he asked me a bunch of questions he said he thought I would need the over-the-ear kind. And they are having a 40% off sale .....but my gawd, it was quoted to me as costing $3,975, or if financed, $125/mo. There was also another one he said would be $2,975 or $95/mo. but I didn't hear (!) how that one was different from the first one he offered. I reckon it would be possible if I won a sweepstakes or lottery (as would most of the things I need....dental care, eye-glasses, 4 new tires for my car and a few more things....like getting Momo spayed,) but on a single SS check, and with the financial mess I have made of things, I don't see how I can do that right now! So he gave me his name and phone # if I find a way to do it, but honestly, if that was the case I'd just go to the place (The Hearing Life) where I went before and I know where that place is, I am on their records. I've rec'd notices from them that it is time to have my hearing checked again. Same for where I went for my glasses. Why does everything have to be so darn expensive?!
I suppose that Nannie will be arriving home within the hour. I dread having to care for her for 2 days; may have to sleep down in the den, in case she gets up during the night. Just fill in the blanks for my cussing: _____________, ______________, __________!
I sure hope the whole week isn't like the last 2 days have been.
I suppose this thing on Nannie's wrist will be off before morning. I don't know how simple it is because I haven't inspected it. She's already fiddled with the Velcro strips and has been nicely reminded a few times to please leave that alone.
BiL is going to come over tomorrow, so he will keep an eye on Nannie while I am at the bank.
It's time to put Nannie to bed. GOOD!

Ado I think a lot of people would be frustrated by that situation, saint or not
Tweety I used to have no problems with texture, but shrimp for some reason now feels odd to me, and the flavor bland
Dianah that seems a pretty simple recipe
NJ22 glad you were not hurt in that fall
Stars you definitely need some respite care, given that her dementia is progressing and her needs increasing. I think she will likely need placement in the near future
Yesterday should not have been a crazy day at work, but some sticky situations made it more arduous than expected. Hopefully today will be better
During lunch I dropped off the car at the body shop and walked home, took less time than I had expected
Rest of the day was pretty ordinary. Did laundry, walked to the convenience store nearby instead of driving as usual
Odd night, had multiple dreams, some quite vivid, quite rare for me
Today will walk down to the rental care place during lunch, need a car for grocery shopping and book club tonight, we'll be discussing the book Remarkably Bright Creatures
