Trying to be an RN on the central coast of California!

U.S.A. California

Hello :wink2:

Is anyone familiar with Cuesta College in SLO? I've submitted my application, now I'm preparing to take the TEAS test. I'm curious what my chances are of getting in any time soon. I'd love to hear from anyone who's familiar with their nursing program!

Wanna- be -nurse...did you get into the Cuesta program?

I know there are (or there were) 114 on the alternate applicant pool list. As of yesterday at 5 pm, they had admitted through #4. I am #19. All of the alternate and applicant letters who will be accepting their spots must have them in by friday, March 19th.

I'm guessing if they had 114 on the alternate, they must have accepted 114? It just doesnt seem logical to have more than were accepted on the alt list but I am not sure.

The alternate list is just in case the people who got accepted got accepted somewhere else or can't take their spots. This way they have enough people to fill all the spaces they can offer.

Hope ths was helpful!

They don't do a waitlist. If you don't get in, you have to re-apply the next app period.

They do lottery. They give 50% of their students who have completed 12 units or more at Cuesta priority and then the other 50% goes to any other applicant (who has completed pre-reqs elsewhere) who is completely done with ALL pre-reqs.

:uhoh3:

I know a lady who applied ( a friend of a friends mother) and she said she called and they got 239 applictions; maybe they only put so many on the wait list or maybe someof the applications were not complete. I see on the Cuesta nursing page they now have a form for pre-nursing class course evaluations. Maybe people are complaining that they didnt know their class wouldnt be accepted?

Do you live on the Central Coast?..so are you a Cuesta local and will be in the top 50%...so you HAD the Cuesta resident units...your high on the list! Did they take 56 as they have in the past?

I dont here much chatter on this site about Cuesta, is it a prettyreputatable program or maybe I should just wait for Santa Barbara City College? ..or anywhere else I have applied :-) I see on Cuestas home page they are having accredidation problems. Has anyone out there considered that if they get in to this program the school could loose acredidation next year? I am concerned about that.

Really? I didn't know about the accrediation problems. I applied to over 5 other schools so I will just be waiting.

I live in Southern Cali and never took any pre reqs at Cuesta. I have family in Pismo Beach so thats why I applied there. Honestly, 239 is nothing compared to how many applicants the schools down here are getting. My school, Riverside Communitry College, had over 650 apps before the filing period was even over. Its crazy!

Good luck!

btw, Cuesta doesn't have a waitlist. If you don't get in, you have to re-apply the next semester.

Check out Cuesta's home page and it has a link to the acredidation problem. I am local and will have units to get in to Cuesta...what was your GPA in sciences and overall?

sandraellen,

I called the other day and the lady at the desk said they only accepted 46 this time. Why the heck would they put 114 on the alt list? That is giving so many people false hopes. I don't understand it.

My science GPA is 3.0. Overall 3.2. TEAS I did 82%. Not stellar but we will see.

I know at my college, if you were qualified but werent in the top 40 that got in you were on the wait list. Our school is all merit based and a points system, so you are ranked in order of your points. I was number 5 and i got in. I think they got down to number 8 my semester.

Sandraellen,

Did you apply for Cuesta for 2011? I re-applied. The alternate list is up to #13 and they are done with it on Aug 20th. I don't think I will get in for the fall.

I also applied for the waiting list at Santa Barbara. Do you have any idea how long it is?

This is so frustrating waiting to get accepted =(

Yes, I got in to Cuesta. I do not know how long the Santa Barbara wait list is at this time.
