Trying to be an RN on the central coast of California!

Published

Hello :wink2:

Is anyone familiar with Cuesta College in SLO? I've submitted my application, now I'm preparing to take the TEAS test. I'm curious what my chances are of getting in any time soon. I'd love to hear from anyone who's familiar with their nursing program!

You got in or you applied for next Fall?

I got in and start on Aug 16th.

Oh wow! Awesome. I thought you said you were applying for the Fall of 2011! Great! good luck!

Do you live on the central coast and know people in this program? I am going to be applying there for fall 2011 and if it is not worth my efforts I wont. I just wonder how you got this info. I looked Cuesta up and they have a great passing rate ont he NCLEX. Do they have a good reputation i your mind for training their nurses? Do you think that only local nursing graduates get hired at their local hospitals?

I am confused. How did you get in if you didn't apply? Just curious if I can try that too.

I got in and start on Aug 16th.

So how is it going? Do you like it? What are your days like? How is your week structured? Are you working at all while you are in the program? Has anyone dropped out?

Questions questions!

Anything you have to share would be greatly appreciated. :nurse:

I actually decided to go to SBCC because I didn't want to wait anymore. I will graduate from the LVN program May 14th!!!:D

Sweet! Good job. I hope your career starts out well, and keep us updated :)

@sandraellen... I'm assuming you started Aug of last year. How's the program so far? What were your stats (if you don't mind sharing)?

The nursing counselor at Cuesta said that the director had all the stats about the cut-off # for points but wouldn't even share them. =( So it's hard to determine what someone needs to work on or even if they realistically have a chance when applying.

Does anyone know if the residence thing is true? Would they give you priority if you take classes at Cuesta? I only took one course (Microbioloy) but live in the area.

@ms.chia., @sandraellen

I'm curious about this too... I'm going to be applying for Fall 2012. I had a B in Micro (took it a long time ago elsewhere) and A's in Anatomy and Physiology at Cuesta.

_Rumor_ is that you pretty much need A's in all of your prereq's to get in, but who knows, really?

They probably don't share the stats about the cutoff because the numbers change from year to year, it is to their advantage to have a large applicant pool, and us not knowing makes it seem elite!

Geesh. :)

Good luck Ms.Chia, maybe I will see you in Fall 2012.

@lolliloo,

are you going to apply for the lvn program at Cuesta as well?

sucks it's gonna be a whole year until we know.

@lolliloo,

At this time I'm not planning to; I would apply but they are requiring CNA certification to apply to the LVN program this year. I was going to do my CNA cert through a local rest home this summer but ended up taking another job right before I heard back from them... poor timing!

Are you CNA certified? Going to apply to LVN too?

Good luck.
