Trying for Gwinnett Tech 2014

U.S.A. Georgia

So I am gunning for Gwinnett techs fall 2014 class and wanted to start a forum for us to show support and exchange info. I am doing my last prerequisite now and am excited to do this. Best of luck to everyone. Lets do this thang!:woot::coollook::rolleyes::laugh:;):bookworm:

According to the lady we all talk to, they average to get all sections for one total kaplan score. The person who makes the highest score sets the standard of what 100 points value equals for the kaplan. Then they add the point value of your gpa. For example, a 4.0 is 100 points. So if you make a 90 on the Kaplan and that's the highest score out of everyone then you have 100 points plus another 100 points for a 4.0. Then they compare everyone's total points. They will only look deeper into scores or grades if people are neck and neck and they need to find a tie breaker for the last spots.

I'm not too concerned with math, more reading than anything. Looking at my score report for the TEAS, I made a 78.6 on reading, on math I made an 86.7, and the human body science section I made a 90.9.

What killed me on the TEAS was the life science (questions about plants) and earth/physical science. Also the language usage section. It was a really hard test but I hear the Kaplan is a piece of cake compared to the TEAS. If that's true then looking at my scores I should be able to hit a high note, hopefully.

The best anyone can do is study hard and hope for the best. Most importantly, believe you can do it.

Ahhhh I understand now. They would obviously pick the students who did well in science vs getting all A's in math/english comp/humanities.... Also the science portion of the Kaplan.... thats going to make or break whoever gets in if people are tied for a spot.

I'm overall concerned about the lack of seats. I heard they are taking 20 away for EMTs who want to makw the transition into nurses, making that only 40 seats left. Is that true?

If you have ever gone to the building 100 front desks, next to them is a small area with some chairs and a place where you can grab the student paper. they change with each semester. the newest one mentions there being a new EMT bridge, but it won't start until next year. So it is true to a point, but not for us; it is still in the works. Right now, the only current bridging option is for LPNs. Im not worried about seats....at least not that idea directly. Im more worried about doing poorly on the kaplan this thursday, and that it will make me too discouraged.

but then again, there are plenty going in who don't know as much as I do. they dont know about this site, brenau, or they just didnt do well enough in previous classes that when they study the material will be harder to understand than for those who recently took them and have really good grades. Im still fuzzy on what ive studied so far and that must be worse for those who have more time on their class and didnt do as well.

I did very well on my classes, especially my sciences. How is your GPA if you dont mind my asking? Mines a 4.0

Ahh, I never noticed that. I'm happy that's not the case with us. I guess someone is just spreading misinformation, which is not cool. It had me really worried, removing 20 seats is a bit much, that's about 33% taken away from the total amount.

My science gpa is a 4.0 but I got a B in humanities and math, so my overall GPA is 3.8. I think the lowest gpa I heard get in was a 3.5, so I think they excelled greatly in that Kaplan exam.

Did you take your courses mainly at GTC?

They will only focus on your GPA of the Prereqs. Those will only include Biol 2113, 2114, 2117 and they also count the labs as their own class credit along with Engl 1101, College Alg, and intro to psych. dont worry about humanities cus they wont look at it until you need it to graduate. so if you only have 1 B in all your classes for the program, 23/6= 3.83 GPA. The lowest I have heard so far was 3.2 (of course people spread rumors like wildfire for their own gain sometimes). 3.6 is the average accepted student's GPA. As far as where i took my classes, all of my prereqs where completed here with the exception of english which i did at GPC. You?

I did sciences, English and psychology here. Also currently taking a couple more classes. The other few were taken while I was still living in Miami. Those were my B classes. Lol, it was pretty hard living in Miami, being 18/19 and trying to get good grades. To add, the professors at the college I was attending were no where as great as GTC's. There's no comparison.

I get what you mean. That's another reason why I am so adiment about staying in GTCs program. It feels like home to me. Also, my son goes to the D. Scott Hudgens Early Education Center, which is an amazing facility. I get Tuition Assist for his care if I am a GTC student full-time. I have quite a bit riding on getting into GTC's program specifically. Man, I hope I am one who makes it this time....I am so worried about the unknown.:(

Did you try applying last year? I think I couldn't spend an entire year waiting trying to get into an ADN program. I'd finish my pre-reqs to go for the bachelor's instead. ;X

oh, no no. this is my first try at it. i would do that though if i don't make it. no sense in wasting time a whole year doing nothing. but i would still work on those extra classes, and still try again for GTC. They have an amazing reputation at the facilities where we do clinicals. thats why GTCs Rn program has a 100% pass and hiring rate. everyone comes out with a job even without experience. Oh, My GOSH!!! i just got the email for the mandatory meeting! Dude check your student email asap!

I heard the same thing. I was admitted to the hospital a few months ago for dangerously low hr (dehydration due to gastroenteritis that was passing around) my nurse was literally a recent GTC graduate nurse and gave me the thumbs up. I never felt in better hands lol! She was still having some trouble doing blood withdrawals and although I seriously can't stand being pinched I allowed her to take her time. I was feeling horrible anyway and was literally nearly dying and blacking out before I got there! A few pinches would just reassure me I'm still alive. So hey!

For whatever reason I was supposed to be there at that time. That's just the way I look at it.

I got the email too. That, and put it on my calendar with like 50 alarms. Funny the meeting is on my old man's birthday! I will be walking in with a grin from ear to ear.

Yeah. The 27th feels like forever away. But hey the later the better our chances. I'm going Super early so I can register for the test earlier.
