Trying to get into Bowie State nursing program.

Published

I'm a pre-nursing student right now and I plan on transferring to Bowie State and I really want to get into their nursing program, but i only have a 3.3. Anybody know my chances of getting in with that low of a GPA? and how difficult the program is and experiences?

I wish there was someone on here to give us more info on them and their process cuz I don't know much and not many people I talk to know about their program or how to get in

Ok , but do they have to be taken at Bowie the semester you're applying ? For example I'm applying for 2016 does that mean I have to take those last two courses at Bowie in the spring or can I be enrolled in them somewhere else at that time and send them transcripts ?

Honestly I dont know what my overall gpa is because I took biology 102 at prince georges community college when I was in high school and after I graduated high school I went to bowie. My cum at bowie says 3.2. I had a B in chemistry and precalculus and I got an A in Human anatomy and physiology. I and hoping the A in anatomy saves me because the councelor I spoke to said to me the studentwho got accepted last year had a higher gpa than me.

Wow really ? That scares me I hope my gpa is high enough . I got B in ap1 , B in micro , C in ap2 and B in chemistry . So they want me to go all the way back and take bio 102 even tho I have all my other sciences done so hopefully I get an A in there and that'll offset my C in ap2 so I won't have to repeat it . I hope we all get in I heard it's a solid program but it just seems as if they want all classes done at their school . I'm not in the position to do that right now because the courses I still need are given during hours I can't be on campus so I have no choice but to take them elsewhere and transfer them in

I think they want you to take the biology 102 because it is a prerequisite for the traditional program. but if you are applying for the accelerated program you can substitute another science course in place of the bio 102. I pray we all get in. I am really nervous and looking at other schools too because I dont want to just wait for a year if I dont get in but I belief by Gods grace we will get in so just keep faith. I really hope I did enough, Do you guys think it is a good idea talking to the adviser about applying to other schools also as an option.

Yes I believe you are correct and I wanted to take bio 102 and college algebra there so they can easily pull the grades . I worked with a nurse in DC who said she started the accelerated program at Bowie and switched to traditional after the first semester cuz it was a beast ! So don't sleep on Bowie lol . But I primarily want to go there because I like the school and the environment and also because there is NO TEAS test or entrance exams . I took the teas before and bombed it you don't wanna take it trust me . But I would advise that you apply to multiple schools because if something happens with Bowie u have other options . I applied 2014 & 2015 for traditional and was denied so it's not easy to get into as it once was about 5 years ago . Everyone knows there isn't an entrance exam so they flock to Bowie !!! But I spoke with mr dovale back in October and he said entrance exams are coming soon probably for 2017 . Hopefully we'll be in by then .

did you retake any classes to get better grades after you were denied or what were your grades when you did not get in. what were your regular and science grades i am really just trying to figure out my chances and did you talk to and adviser and ask them how to improve your chances

We'll I repeated ap 1 & micro and got Bs the second time around but I was told the reason I didn't get in was because all my prerequisite weren't done . Which I don't understand because if you look at traditional on the webpage it clearly lists prereqs with the nursing courses each semester indicating that you can take them concurrently

Sorry men you are right it does say that on their website but I dont think and adviser told you the truth. because I spoke to Mr duval about weather I should apply for the traditional or accelerated beacuse i will also be done with the accelerated requirements by next spring and he told me not to apply for the accelerated because even though i might finish the requirement by next spring they wont admit me because there is also a chance i might fail them. He told me personally they only look at students who have completed all their prerequisites except maybe nursing 101

Yea that sounds more accurate because for accelerated they prob would want you to have all pre reqs done when you apply so maybe I will just do traditional , I heard the accelerated is tough anyways and a lot of students drop down to traditional after the first semester . So I will just apply to the traditional .. But it's weird because in my case mr dovale wanted me to finish the last two courses at Bowie and I won't be able to because of my work schedule I'm enrolled in them at BCCC in Baltimore , because they had more flexible class times . Now what I could do is try to take college algebra at Bowie because I see they have an online section in the spring and I think u have to be to class on Tuesdays at 5pm which shouldn't be a problem for me . It's just so much trying to get all this together just for them to reject you LoL as they did me the past two years . But they don't have a TEAS exam and that's why I'm sticking with them

Take the online class you saw for precalculus . I took it this fall and got a B. I was saw close to an A . you have to be in school just the days of the exam . I love the professor and till today he is the best teacher I have ever taken in bowie.

Honestly i think if you applied for the traditional you might have gotten in with B in chemistry and especially a B in human anatomy and physiology. I know a lot of people I took chemistry and the anatomy class with this past fall who are applying to the program and they either dropped anatomy or the got C and some of them failed. Anatomy is really hard and your b in the class and your B in chemistry will really help if you applied for the traditional. For the accelerated it is too competitive. My freind in the program said she knows people who were rejected with a 3.75. my freind got in with a 3.5 but she had and A in chemistry A in human anatomy i and 2 and A in chemistry. try and do well in precalculus because my freind said it is really important. I think your B in anatomy will really help you I just hope my anatomy grade really helps me too. Hope I see you in the program starting fall 2016. keep update durring the application process. i will keep update too.
