Is it just me or is every Licensed Practical Nurse having a hard time finding a job in Vancouver, BC, Canada?
I just graduated from the PN Program last September 2009 and I am stll having a hard time finding a job. I've been applying eveywhere almost everyday. I even had a chance to get my Immunization and Vaccination certificate but still no luck.

I'm an LPN in Kelowna and graduated in Aug '08. I know a girl who went to school here and then moved back to Vancouver and she graded in Jan '08 and even then she had a very, very tough time finding a job. She said she applied all over the Lower Mainland. Costal Health, Fraser Health etc. Private LTC, agencies etc. Last I heard, she eventually got on casual at a private LTC home, but it took MONTHS AND MONTHS for her to get hired. A classmate of mine who had a job here (and therefore experience) was going to move to Vancouver to live with her boyfriend, this was about a year ago. Looked, and looked and looked everywhere and couldn't get hired. So she stayed here.
Now a year ago, I would have said, move to Kelowna, there's tons of LPN jobs. Not anymore. The whole economy recession has really slowed every thing down. There are very, very few LPNs getting hired anywhere in Kelowna. I'm blessed that I finished at a good time and got hired with Interior Health right away and now have a good number of seniority hours.
From what I understand, if you don't have family/children obligation in Vancouver, you may want to consider a temporary move up north. I think Northern Health is still hiring and there seems to be jobs there. But really north, like Fort St. John. I'm not sure, but you may want to look into the Island was well. I'm not sure what there hiring situation is like.
Good luck. Don't give up!!
