TriStar Nurse Residency Summer 2020

Updated:   Published

Hello all!

Just wanted to create this little blog to see who else was going to be interviewing at Tristar for their New Grad Nurse Residency program for Summer 2020. I have interviews on Feb. 27th and 28th at Centennial and StoneCrest, respectively. I am pretty excited, but also nervous. I have never participated in a group interview process before.

Cool, CONGRATS! What units?

Thank you! I haven't gotten the official email from Centennial but the unit manager for Neuro Acute reached out to me about an offer being sent next week. At skyline they offered me 3 units, neuro acute, neuro ICU, and med surg.

Thanks!

I know some hospitals end up making a FB group for cohorts, but I made a FB group for all hospitals for people starting in new grad programs, especially for those moving to the area. Feel free to join if you're going to be a new grad!

Hey CONGRATS on your offer! I'm going to graduate May of 2021 and would really like to work in the Nashville area. Could you tell me what kind of questions were asked in the interview and what you felt helped you get the job? Thank you!

I don't really remember what questions they asked, I usually forget the moment I walk out and it's been about three months now, sorry! I've worked as an ER tech for years now and I'm a military veteran so I think those were the two things that really set me apart.

Hey! That is a great goal to set for yourself! The interview process is not nearly as scary as it seems so don't fret! I interviewed at Centennial, Skyline, and Vanderbilt, they were all pretty laid back and I ended up with offers from all 3. The biggest thing that I think helped me was just looking up into on them ahead of time. When they offer you the chance to ask them questions if you can ask them about "how they feel their mission statement of '.....' is seen in the work place" or other specific questions it really helps show you are interested. Out of the 3 hospitals, 2 were group interviews so it is less stressful in my opinion being in a group but you also need to make sure when you have 5 people all answering the same questions that yours can stand out and be memorable. They all ask a lot of situation-based questions like "tell me about a time you were unsure of what to do and how you handled the situation" or "what is a time you have had conflict in the work place and how did you handle it?". I just looked up basic nursing interview questions and practiced. It is a good idea with those types of questions to nail down a few stories that work for the basic questions like those ahead of time so you have some idea what you are going to say but you don't have to memorize it word for word. As far as getting the job offers the best thing I could say is to be yourself, relax, and act natural. Everyone is nervous but if you can take a deep breath and have act genuine it helps. I reached out to a few people from my nursing school that work at Vanderbilt to get their point of view and it helps a lot talking to people who have gone thru what you are trying to do, so good job finding this board to ask for help! Hope this helps some, if you need any help you can message me!

Thank you so much, this is so helpful! What type of experience did you have on your resume, I’m looking to get involved more in this last year and wanted to get some good experience. Good luck starting your nursing career soon!

Of course you're welcome! I know it was all a little overwhelming for me to figure out at first, and still is during these next steps too hahaha. I got my CNA certificate during my sophomore year of college and worked full time during all my breaks in school as a tech at an assisted living. Having any kind of healthcare experience, even if it's just volunteering really helps. Beyond my tech job, I worked as a nanny for a family most of college, a camp counselor, and a youth mentor for a leadership program. Even though those jobs weren't healthcare they all had a lot of experience working with families and kids which helps. Having any job experience at all helps show that you are a hard worker and dependable.

I realize I never mentioned in my first response where I am working LOL, but I will be working at Vanderbilt starting in less than 2 months now. All the hospitals in Nash are great though, you really can't go wrong with any of them! If you ever need any help at all or have any more questions you can email me too, my email is [email protected] ?
