Tri-C accelerated adn

Published

I was hoping someone could help me out about the Tri C accelerated adn program. Is it doable with kids? It is my understanding that it is a 1 year program? I do have all prereqs done...so for me it is a matter of scheduling. I just can't sit around and wait another year for Stark State's program. If anyone who has been through the curriculum, could you give me asn idea of what the week's schedule would be like if all you needed to take was the nursing courses....with all other classes done?

Thanks!

I'm not sure either really, I have just heard it, and not only for Tri-C but for other programs, yes, I hope they address this on Thursday. I have heard from Tri-C graduates that the program is extremely difficult. I hope you are right!

Hey CraftyStar. I went online last night looking for the clinical sites. Were they in the course catalog, or something within "my tri-c space". I looked both places and was not able to find them. Hope you are on here today! :)

Did you join the ADN nursing group in your my tri-c space? Directions on how to do it were included in the packet of materials they sent out to us in Feb. If you take a look at the instructions on how to find the nursing student handbook, that should get you to the ADN group. Look under the 'files' tab for 'registration info sum-09' and click on 1300/1450 Accelerated and you will see the scheduling grid. That gives you our schedule options for this summer.

It seems they use the ADN group for general communication and it has been fun poking around. I was able to take a look at past sylibi to see what our books will likely be and there is a message board that has been good for sharing information. I would defiantely check it out!

Thank you, I found it! Much easier to plan things now! I think I might try for Bedford too, as my children will be with my parents those days on the east side. I bet everyone is going to want the same schedule where labs are back to back with lecture.

I am glad you found it! It looked to me like labs are back-to-back with lecture both Monday and Tuesday. The only difference is that Tuesday is a longer day since lecture is longer. The schedule isn't as bad as I thought it would be, which is nice.

I will go for clinicals at Bedford or South Pointe...both are pretty close and South Pointe has two sections. I am just glad I don't have to go into the city or go to the west side. I am not a morning person and that would have killed me!

This is really helpful; I felt somewhat lost before I found all of this, thanks again. No, it doesn't look too bad. Do you have to take psy2020? I am not sure if I do or not, all of my credits transferred and I have taken several psychology courses, beyond the general ones. Did someone look over your transcripts?

I don't have to take psy 2020. Fortunately, the only classes I have to take are the nursing courses. I took pretty much all of the psychology and math courses for my undergraduate degree and I have taken care of all of the science courses this last year.

Yes, I have had someone look over my transcripts...three people, actually. I got very different answers from all three regarding the English requirements. As a result, I almost had to wait until next year to start because I was told I could take the CLEP test for English and we can't. I was pretty upset, but luckily I got into English 1010 the first eight weeks of the semester and the nursing program has space this summer. Have you tried running a DARS report? You can do that from the 'my info' tab of your 'my tri-c' site. I found it very helpful to see what requirements I have left to fill and I trust that much more than I trust any of the counselors!

I believe I will not have to take psy2020 either, and I know I have completed my math req. luckily. Interesting! I will do the DARS report right now! I did have someone look at my transcripts and he said everything looked good, all I needed was micro. (which I was in at the time) to get into accelerated.

well great, according to the dars report, I need psy2020. I guess I will talk to someone about this, as I have about 4 other psy. courses listed that I took in addition to the general psy. course. I wonder if I have to take it this first semester, I would prefer to wait until I am a little further into the program.

looking over the syllabi I am nervous about the three chance rule, where if you cannot get the procedure after three tries, you fail!

Ugh...I would definitely talk to someone about psy 2020. Hopefully one of your other courses will take care of that requirement! Did everything else work out?

I am also nervous about the 3 tries rule. I just keep giving myself pep talks and reminding myself that, based on the nurses I have encountered, people less-competent than me have gotten through this program so I should be fine! The language used in the new absence policy scared me a little bit too, but then I remembered that I haven't missed a class yet and I tend to be on time for most things. I think rules like that aren't made for responsible, hard-working people...they are made for the people that just barely pass or end up dropping out and I don't think that applies to either of us. :)

yes, everything else looked good on the DARS report. honestly if I have to take it, I'd much rather do that than another math class or anything else for that matter.

Haha! You sound like me, as far as other nurses we know, and thinking..."if she/he did it, I certainly can!" Yes, same here, I never miss class, never really did. I am a little nervous for fall, b/c I want to see my daughter off to her first day of Kindergarten! Would love to be there when she gets home too, but we'll see. Maybe it will be on a lecture day and I can just talk to the prof. about coming in late. I would hope they would understand.

I would be very surprised if the profs would have a problem with you seeing your daughter off on her first day of kindergarten...that is such an important day!

I was just at the metro campus for a meeting and checked out the health sciences building. It is MUCH nice than I expected...keep in mind, though, that my expectations weren't that high. It looks like a pretty well-equipped area and it was exciting to see everyone in their uniforms. :)
