Traveling to Seattle, hints for things to do???

Published

Hey there all, I am going to be traveling out to Seattle to work in September and I just wanted some hints on things to do while in the area.....great places to eat, places to visit, things to do - Please give me some tips.

Thanks in advance!

Things to check out: EMP (Experience Music Project), Seattle underground tour, SAM (Seattle Art museum), Space needle, Pacific Science Center, Pike place market, the original STARBUCKS!, Seattle Aquarium, Woodland Park zoo, Alki beach, Bite of Seattle, Achrie McPhee's gag gift store, Ye Olde Curosity Shoppe or the Pier (totally fun)

Places to eat: The Metropolitain Grill (best steak ever), Zeke's pizza. The only memorable places I've been to.

Oh I am sure there are many more things to do/see and eat. Have fun!

Go on a ferry ride on a clear day (the Seattle-Bremerton ride has nice views of Mt. Rainier), go shopping around the college neighborhoods - Broadway, the Ave (University Way), and the U Village. Visit Gas Works park, go canoeing on Lake Washington, take a run or play sports around Greenlake, visit the international district.

Seattle has a small downtown area. Most of us live in the little neighborhoods around downtown. So if you want to skip the busy tourist spots I suggest visiting Seattle's various neighborhoods - Broadway/Central District, the U District, International District, Ballard, etc.

Here are some good places to eat: Broadway Bar & Grill, Charlie's on Broadway, Taste of India, Pho Cyclo, Salty's on Alki is a must if you like seafood, etc.

Seattle is such a cool city! The Puyallup Fair is pretty big in western Washington and it runs throughout the month of September. Check out http://www.thefair.com. Also fun to do is to catch Amtrak at the King St. Station and take a nice 3-hour train ride south to Portland, Oregon or north to Vancouver, British Columbia so that you can explore 2 more cities while you're here! Both cities can be done in one day since the trains leave early in the morning and come back at night. Roundtrip fares start around $50. Just remember to have your passport to go into Canada.

The pier in downtown Seattle is beautiful and Pike Place Market is walking distance from the pier. http://www.pikeplacemarket.org. It's fun to just walk around, explore quaint little shops, eat fun food and watch the street performers.

Have a safe trip and I hope you enjoy your time in Seattle!

Hi! I've been there a few times. I'm an old fogey....but could have spent 2 entire days at the EMP looking at Jimi Hendrix and Janis' old costumes and music. Very well put together. Hey, if you go to Alki Beach, try the Cucumber Mojitos at Duke's bar on the beach. I loved Pike's Place Market...and want to recommend a place called The Big Picture....they show first run movies there, small place....they have a full bar with wonderful cocktails...try the Bogart...and you can get cheddar cheese popcorn in champagne buckets! Drink refills are easy - they either come around and take your order in the theatre, or you can zip out at any time. They rent the place out on the side. I saw "Hairspray" there, and I had a blast!

And the ferries are a must - I went to Bremerton - and we drove around....went to some small wineries that look like store fronts, for tasting, and had a great bargain dinner at an Indian Casino....found a local dive where the older crowd meets regularly to drink beer and shoot pool....even the ladies in their 70's, all dressed up with dangling earrings shooting pool. Really enjoyable....and I felt relaxed! Lots of beautiful country, lots to enjoy. Great bookstores.
