Traveling Nurse Salary

Hi Kathy,

Congratulations on graduating and looking ahead to the future. Being a travel nurse is a great experience. But it should be researched carefully because not many things are as great as the advertisements.

I don't make any more as a travel nurse than I do at my regular job when I examine and balance both carefully.

Both have benefits and distractions.

Unless you plan on only working for crisis pay, in crisis situations you will not make much more than any one else.

I was able to do this once. Remember the higher the pay, the worse the working conditions.

There is a huge amount of information on allnurses allready to get you started and when you have formulated some specific questions don't hesitate to ask them.

In the meantime work on learning as much as you can and you will be preparing yourself for future opportunities.

My husband travels with me, and we go around the country spending a few months in the vicinity of family and friends. He goes and works at habitat for humanity sites while I bring home the bacon.

It works good for both of us right now

My facility doesn't pay travel nurses much higher than staff per diem nurses, but they do get a housing allowance, so in that respect pay is higher.
