Hi travelers...
I have been dying to get into traveling for as long as I can remember, and have been speaking with various agencies. There is just one thing holding me back...I have four dogs, three between 50-70 lbs. Am I crazy to even think we can do this? We rent vacation homes with the dogs without a problem, and I would be bringing my husband along, who would be at home as a freelance writer. However, I am concerned that I would not be able to find housing (and that this might allow me to not be flexible enough in a difficult economy!). I have thought about the possibility of buying an RV and doing it that way. Any thoughts or suggestions? I am a critical care nurse, hopefully in higher demand.

Your best bet might be the RV. I've traveled with one small dog and usually had to pay a pet deposit of anywhere from $100 to $300 at each place I was housed. Sometimes part was refundable, sometimes not. In almost every place this was a charge PER PET. Keep in mind this is repeated usually every 3 months. Many also have restrictions on the number and size of pets allowed.
Having an RV and finding your own RV park for it would give you a lot more latitude with jobs.

I would also suggest the RV route. Sounds kind of adventurous and your get to take your husband along.
I thought about finding my own rentals on sites like www.homeaway.com, which lists pet friendly places. Those are usually like $2000-$3000 a month though. Would the housing stipend cover a place like that?

Usually not. Most of the time, housing stipends are in the $1000.-$1,300. a month range.
You can check Craig's List for rentals.
Yeah, I have heard of travelers with pets finding nice month to month rentals off of craigs list.
I don't mind a longer commute as I drive 45 mins. to work as it is (the price for living in the woods). With RV parks or campsites--is it ok to leave dogs inside RV and head out in the car? I know with tent and cabin camping you usually can't leave dogs unattended, but I've never stayed any place for more than a week. Thanks so much for the responses...
