I am about to start travel nursing and am looking to start out in NYC! I am wondering if this is too much of a big step considering i'm from Oklahoma and have 1 year of nursing experience. I am in contact with RNNetwork and was also wondering if anyone knows anything good or bad about them. Thanks!

I am interested at Travel Nursing too. let me know how it is :)

I am hoping to travel there. I think one year is too little experience. Im still nervous with 4 years neuro ICU under my belt...you really have to hit the floor running and in nyc the conditions are sometimes not as good as what you may be used to..plus if you dont have any connections there it is a rough city to start out in.....

i agree with galaxy.

I say go for it!! I just took a travel assignment in Orange County Ca after 1 year experience. Don't hold yourself back. Just be open minded and willing to continue learning and you will do awesome.

Wow, Oklahoma to NYC? You are intrepid indeed. All things being equal I would never consider NYC as a starter assignment.

That said, if you have a background in major cities and cross-cultural experiences, it may be an easy transition. And where is the hospital; mid-town Manhatten or out in bridge and tunnel land?

Good luck with this. Sounds like you are in for one memorable trip. I'll go out on a limb and assume you'll learn quite a bit. Dorothy, you are not in Norman anymore. Have fun with this - it won't be boring.

Oh just go to NYC! Sick people there are no different than sick people in OK...oh maybe a little more pushy. Everyone who likes urban living should live in NYC at least once! I worked at NY Cornell a few years back, LOVED IT!

I took my first travel nursing job in Las Vegas after living in Mississippi for the first 30 years of my life! I am not entirely pleased with my travel company so I'm looking for a new one right now - but the experience in a new, large, vibrant city has been amazing!

Sin City instead of NYC? I've never been there, but should get there one of these years. Now don't gamble all that hard earned cash away. I've always thought about travel nursing when my kids are off to school (that will be in Sept), but I'm a little chicken. I've been mostly at the same hospital for 25 years, with breaks onto per diem status here and there. So I would be of no help with a travel company!

I'm not a big gambler, so the lure of the casinos has not been a problem! I think I may have spent $60-$80 in the 2.5 months that I've been here. I can't tell you how much I've spent on entertainment though! Cirque du Soleil, IMAX, comedy, night life... so many fun things to do in Vegas!!! :yeah:

So how did it go? Did you take the plunge to work in NYC?

I'm a nurse with 2 years of work experience and have been thinking about doing travel nursing in NYC like yourself. Please let me know how it went!
