travel nursing in florida

I've recently observed my situation and realize that I'm barely making enough money. I still have a significant amount of student loan to pay. I'm single and have thought about traveling specifically to Florida. I recently got my license for Florida and I'm currently practicing in NJ. I have a little over 1.5 years in nursing. One year in a nursing home and 6 months on a telemetry/cardiac floor. I'll make a year in June in the hospital and by that time I should be able to move. My questions are:

1) what were the assignments like

2)did you get the most challenging patients because you were new?

3)what travel agency did you use?

4) did you receive medical benefits or did you have to purchase it on your own?

5) did you receive a housing stipend?

6)did you Have to live with roommates?

7) what is your best advice/tip to me?

Thanks for your time

Hi Rod, If you can please PM or email me... [email protected]. I am an inquiring travel nurse and have been speaking to a couple recruiters thus far. I would love to ask you a few questions that could help me out. Hope to hear from you soon. Thanks

Hello Rod! I would like to know the agency you work under because I'm looking to do travel nursing in Orlando

Thank you!

I have a question Rod, the 1200ish/week in florida does it include the housing stipend if you are taking it?

Rod, can you PM me what to expect as per pay in Orlando Florida. I tried to PM you but dont know how.

It varies but expect some take home to be just shy of 1400 unless you are icu or one of the slightly higher Paying specialties. 1300 should be attainable so if it's less than that fight for more

Hi Rod,

I'm considering traveling to Orlando, I'm not sure how I can pm you, would you be able to email me? yippi88 at gmail

I'm currently in Lakewood Ranch, FL, near Sarasota. This is my second winter assignment here and I love it. I do 5-6 month contracts since it's so seasonal here. I've become great friends with my co-workers. On days you typically have 5-6pts...but I've seen lots of Colorado hospitals doing the same. I've been begged to stay on permanently but don't think I could ever tolerate the summers. The doctors have incredibly friendly but of course everywhere you go there will be a few bad apples. It's just like the permanent staff too, and once you prove to them that you're competent, they're more willing to help out. You have to remember that they've had to deal with some not so great travelers at times and sometimes poor working conditions. When they realize that you're great at what you do and you're there to help them out, usually their attitudes change.

Thank you for the helpful information.

please stay out of florida. I am here now and just gave notice as I wont finish my contract. it is too horrible here. the pay is the lowest I ever had, the working conditions are poor and people are down right mean. I am originally from nj. worked at st. michaels, st. barnabas and beth Israel. I have never worked like a dog before but that is how it is in florida. go somewhere else. I am a nurse for 25 years.

Well...the pay is in the low side but it sounds like you are at a bad facility. More reason to actually look up the facility before you sign a contract.

Specializes in ICU / PCU / Telemetry / Oncology.

I'm at a small hospital in Florida right now, counting the time I have remaining on this contract, which now stands at 9 weeks. I knew what I was getting into when I pursued a contract here, I just wanted to be closer to home for the winter while not enduring snow. It's everything as bad as I've heard and the pay is certainly lousy. I live for days off, keeps me sane. This is my first and certainly now my last contract in Florida. Thank God I didn't pay for the license!

Specializes in stroke and trauma.

I need help. I am about to start traveling in Florida first and i found this thread to be helpful but i have questions
