Travel Nurse Question

I've been a nurse for three years. Two of which I was working in a coronary ICU for a 400 bed hospital.

I am considering travel nursing, but was curious as to what kind of orientation you get if any? Any other helpful tips would be great.

I'm looking to travel to the Phoenix Metro area.

Also any info on top companies to travel for especially in this area. The hospital I'm looking at also offers 3,6, or 9 month assignements (would this be good)

Actually, maintaining your home is a smart move. You can only legally receive the tax free stipend/housing and travel expenses if you maintain a tax home by the IRS guidelines, thereby duplicating expenses you would have at home. Otherwise, you would be liable for taxes on all that money. (Yes I know some people take the tax free money anyway, but that leaves you open to BIG problems if the IRS ever audits you, which has happened to some travelers)

You don't get in trouble (IRS) if you just take the free housing, not the stipen right?

Check with irs.gov. In order to qualify for the freebies, tax-free, you need to be 50 miles from your home base (and you need to have a home base).

ugh... this is all so confusing. We currently live in Indiana, and would be traveling to Phoenix. We wanted to sell our home here though in order to travel, because I don't want to have to worry about maintenance etc from half way across the country.

to all seasoned travellers, i am going on my first assisgnment in july in reno,nv. my address is on robb dr at the manzanita gates apt. cannot find them on line. anyone near there? can u tell me how the neighborhood is and the apt complex? appreciate it.

The IRS has no 50 mile rule for travelers. It is a requirement to move 50 miles to deduct MOVING expenses not traveling expenses.

Many hospitals have instituted a 50 mile rule so all their own staff won't become "travelers"
