Travel Nurse Dubai/uae - Advice Please

Published

Hi there

I am a UK Nurse in London and wanting to work in Dubai/UAE in the near future. Have you ever done this or know anyone who has? If so what was it like/ experiences etc .. life style and tax free money worth it?

greatful of any comments...

Even if you are US Nurse/Midwife then all feedback appreciated :clown:

I know a very reputable recruitment company who deploy nurses to the UAE. It's a husband & wife team, not a big corporate company, and they are both nurses who have worked for many years in the Middle East themselves. If you want their contact details, let me know and I'll send to you via PM :)

Could you also send it to me?

hello everybody! nice to meet you!

i'm also a nurse looking for job in dubai.

by the way, i'm brazilian and did all my studies in brazil, but i've been living in istanbul for 8 months.

i did look for a job on dubai's newspaper, and yes, there are lots of them. some i couldn't understand, because they ask for a nurse on "husband's sponsorship". is it something related to visa issues? or they just don't want to give you benefits as house allowance, car, etc? could you help me to understand it?

and also there's another question: what's moh and doh license?

there are some agencies, but only for western or us/ canadian trained staff.

so if you can help us more... i'm still a kind of lost about looking for a job here. i don't know in which hospital look for informations about careers...

thanks a lot!

kind regards!

moh is the abu dhabi ministry of health nursing registration license. doh is for dubai. in order to work here u need to have a local license. abu dhabi has an exam, dubai has an interview. both need the transcripts from ur school and application form... u can not apply for urself. the hospital that is interested in u will apply for u and they will issue a temporary license till u pass the exam in abu dhabi. in dubai also, the hospital will apply for u and u will have an interview in the doh (department for health).

it is different for uk and usa trained nurses. i think their license is just endorced. i mentioned before there is a discrimination issue that i can not coop with and i want to move, actually prove myself i am worth and there is nothing wrong being eastern european.

husband sponsorship means that ur husband has a job and u r on his visa. u can not stay in this country if u dont have a visa. either u r on the hospitals visa or on husband visa. many people come on visit visa and they exit the country after 3 months (visit visa is expired in 3 months) to change the status (to resident visa).

let me know if i can help u with some more information about uae.

last night we had rain. believe it or no! i didnt see it raining but the streets were wet in the morning. the last time we had rain here was a year ago:chuckle :chuckle

thanks, thanks, thanks elenova!

very helpful!

actually, i'm in dubai this week on a holiday trip (only 7 days) but also taking my time to look for a job.

i did feel the discrimination you told. i think it's just because sometimes they don't know anything about nursing in other countries, but we can change it. ;) if we have to do this test, go for an interview, no problems. we can do it and proove we are good nurses with the same skills. ;)

i would be very glad if you could send me tips and whatever you think would help me.

Try American Hospital, Welcare, Rashid Hospital, Iranian Hospital too. Be confident and ask for good benefits, accommodation, salary at 10 000 and ticket back home every year. At least. They usually negotiate with the salary and other benefits.

Sorry for the question, r u M or F. In this country matters.

Female, 27 years old.

I'll try those.

Thank you very much!

Good luck! Please, keep us posted!

Hello everyone. I'm a Filipino nurse working at Rashid Hospital in Dubai for more than four months now. It is a beautiful country and I have no regret that I decided to work here. The way of living is not strict compared to other Muslim countries (It's a very open country). I was one of the many nurses hired by DOHMS in their job recruitment last year in the Philippines.

To moranguinho : may I add that Canadian Specialist Hospital in Dubai will be opening in the 2nd quarter of this year. Try to apply to them. I don't have their contact numbers but you can search for it at Google or Yahoo.

To Elenova: You mentioned about 10,000 AED.I really thought that the salary offered to me was already very high. Until I talked to some of my co-nurses most of whom are from USA, UK and Canada that I found out that what I'm receiving is less than half of what they are entitled to. But still my salary is enough that I can even send money to my family back in the Philippines.

Thanks and good luck to all!

What are American nurses being offered? I did the conversion and 10,000 per month is not anywhere near what a nurse in the US would make. Even 20,000 is just about the going rate in my area of the US. It was rumored elsewhere on this forum that nurses were being offered $250,000 (US) for 13 months in Kuwait. I thought it sounded too good to be true but I am still curious about rates in other Gulf countries.

Thanks for the info.

Hello everyone.

Thanks for your reply, ninacf. I'll also try this one.

If anyone else has another sugestion, please post it here. It would be very nice! ;)

I have 2 more questions if you don't mind, just to clarify so I can understand how it works.

How long does it take (more or less) from the day you start the process until you can start to work? I mean, all the burocracy stuff... Just to have an idea...

How are the shifts here and how many patients are you responsible for?

In Brazil I used to work 40 hours/ week in 12 hours shifts. I had to work 2 weekends to have one free. I was responsible for 18 patients at a general clinic.

Best regards!

Hello fotografe!

I heard that Saudi Arabia is the best country if you are talking about salaries. I don't know about exactelly how much... But if you are talking about LIFE, and if you are a woman, I think it's not a good idea to go there.

Women can not drive, can not show even their faces and other things like that.

But still, $250000 US anywhere I also think is too good to be true.

Regards...

In Saudi the pay is good for Westernes, I had a friend from Canada, worked in a big hospital in Saudi, she was happy and didnt wanna move. it is not true that ladies have to cover their faces. They have to cover their hair only. There is a religious police (women) and if ur cover has fallen on ur shoulders, they encouage u to put it back. My friend was happy there, they had parties every weekend in the Ameican camp. Once they r inside the camp, they can remove the abaya and the head cover. It was the case with her and she was working in a big hospital.

In general I would not advise anybody to go there.

Kuweit is in bad situation now. And 250 000$ is a dream.

I will tell u smthg. In UAE u may take less than what u make in USA, but the company gives u very reasonable accommodation, furniture allowance, transportation allowance, ticket to ur country every year, 30-40 days paid leave, insurance and what else, u name it. I am talking about government hospital to a Westerner. The situation with Easterners is different, we get less than half of what the westerners take...That is a reason why we wanna go to USA. We r paid as much as others.

Most of the hospitals dont have a salary scale. If they need u, u can negotiate for ur salary.

How much do u take back home after the company has paid for everything? Sure here the Americans make much more than what they do back home.

Good Luck
