  1. Thanks for the correction elenova. I jumbled on numbers about the shifting schedule. I have already edited my previous post. Godbless.
  2. Hi again kkettle. Canadian Specialist Hospital will be opening this 2nd quarter. You may inquire to them for an employment opprtunity. But there are many hospitals here in Dubai that you can apply to ifever you and your husband are already settled in here. Nurse shortage is everywhere Take care!
  3. Hi kkettle. About the work shifts which is 7-3, 3-11 and 11-7, you may request to the nurse supervisor if you want a schedule that is convenient to you. But you must have a valid reason for doing so. Schedules are posted on the first day of the month so you must ask the supervisor two weeks in advance. I requested for a night shift on April since I'll be reviewing for the IELTS which I'll be taking on May at the British embassy here in Dubai and thankfully it was approved. I'm just on my fourth month here and what I can share to you is very limited. I'm sure other members can add answers to your query. goodluck and Godbless.
  4. Hello everyone. I'm a Filipino nurse working at Rashid Hospital in Dubai for more than four months now. It is a beautiful country and I have no regret that I decided to work here. The way of living is not strict compared to other Muslim countries (It's a very open country). I was one of the many nurses hired by DOHMS in their job recruitment last year in the Philippines. To moranguinho : may I add that Canadian Specialist Hospital in Dubai will be opening in the 2nd quarter of this year. Try to apply to them. I don't have their contact numbers but you can search for it at Google or Yahoo. To Elenova: You mentioned about 10,000 AED.I really thought that the salary offered to me was already very high. Until I talked to some of my co-nurses most of whom are from USA, UK and Canada that I found out that what I'm receiving is less than half of what they are entitled to. But still my salary is enough that I can even send money to my family back in the Philippines. Thanks and good luck to all!
  5. Hi kkettle. I'm working as a nurse in a government-operated here in Dubai for more than four months now. Here are the answers I can share to your queries: 1. Yes there is a chance that you will be hired though you are a recent graduate. The employers here have a preference for Western-educated nurses. 2. The accomodation package can be converted to cash which will be added to the monthly salary in case that you don't avail of it. 3. I work 5 days a week (8 1/2 hours a day). That is UAE's labor policy for all workers. There is also no provision for an overtime work ifever you wish to do extended duties. 4. The salary is very much worth it. As for me who was previously working at a hospital in my native country Philippines, the salary I am getting from working here in Dubai is very much higher. But there are some nurses from Europe, USA and Canada who are receiving more than double my salary. That will be a great news for you. I hope this helps and Goodluck!
  6. Dale and Rep maraming salamat (thank you very much) for replying to my query. My NVC case number is MNL2005834xxx. And yes my agency want to receive all NVC correspondences. l will call my immigration lawyer to clarify this matter.
  7. Good day everyone. To Suzanne, Rep, Nurse Dep, Dale, Lawrence or anyone who can give me advise and comments. This pertains to the DS230 form that my agency requires me to fill up. I am currently working in Dubai and I’m worrying that any conflicting answers I write on the form may be a ground for visa denial. In DS230 Part 1 sections 13 (Present Address), 20 (List all places you have lived… Begin with your present residence) and 22 (List below all employment for the last ten years), here is what they instructed me to write: Section 13 – Address of my agency in Philippines. Section 20 – My address here in Dubai Section 22 – My employer and location in Dubai. Common sense tells me that how could it be that I’m currently employed and residing in Dubai while my present address is listed as in the Philippines. Should I raise this concern to my US employer or just push through with the submission of my accomplished DS230 with the abovementioned entries? Thanks in advance. Mabuhay!
  8. Hi Tagumpay. Is your girlfriend a nurse? If she is then you can be her dependent if you two marry before the approval of her petition. Then you may look for job in US as nurse aide. Unlike nurses, nurse aides are not in shortage demand in the US. So if you are planning to immigrate your case application at USCIS will be treated as an ordinary skilled worker which will take many years to be approved. If she is not a nurse I recommend you consider Canada. They have a Provincial Nomination program that has less stringent requirements. The primary criteria is that you need a relative who is already settled in there to be your sponsor. There are no qualifying or language proficiency exams that you need to take. It took my friend less than a year to have her case approved and is now in Manitoba. You may search for that immigration program at the Canadian Embassy links. Goodluck!
  9. My husband was told that there were many cases wherein in a separated parents the father has applied for a child's passport and then went abroad bringing along with him his child without the mother's knowledge and consent. He argued that what if its the other way around. It fell on deaf ears. Anyway, good news is that my kids can now apply for passport coz the wife of my husband's cousin is working at DFA. We want to make it via the legal route but there were bureaucratic blockades so we'll now rely on "kakilala system" for my two kids to get passport.
  10. Thanks Rep for the reply. I have another inquiry. Are copies of documents for me and my dependents like Passport, Birth and Marriage Certificate, Police clearance etc. needed to be submitted together with DS230 to NVC? My agency is requiring that I submit those documents though I read from a Department of State Supplementary Form that specifically states " The application for visa application forms DS230 part 1 must be sent directly to NVC. All other documents will be required at the time of your visa interview". I ask this since my husband in the Philippines is having a hard time securing passport for my two kids. The screener told him that only the mother may file an application on behalf of her kids. I am currently working in Dubai and it is not possible that I personally apply for their passports.
  11. Good day everyone. I need advise regarding my petition. I have an I-140 Notice of Approval dated November 18, 2005. Can you please give me a timeframe to which I should go back to the Philippines. I'm currently working at a hospital here in Dubai and I don't want to immediately head back home due to financial considerations since I'll be jobless or receive a meager salary ifever I work again at a hospital in the Philippines. Thank you very much.:)
  12. Hello everyone. I would like to ask what happens next after the approval of I-140 going thru Packet 3. Will my agency need to pay the visa processing fee outright or NVC will send the Packet 3 to them and then pay for the corresponding fees? And how long on the average does it take for the NVC to process Packet 3? Any input will be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.
  13. Good day snoopyleader. My nurse friends when I was still in the Philippines have been hired by Hamad Medical Center. You may search for their website at yahoo or google. I was suppose to join them had it not been for an earlier contract I signed with an agency that deployed me here in Dubai. My friends thru email are telling me that Hamad is still very much in need of foreign nurses. If your credentials are complete you will surely be hired since you are already in Qatar and that would be big savings for the hospital that they will not pay for your airfare. Goodluck!
  14. Hi nurse_anne. I too was obliged by my agency to pay a bond in the amount of $212 I paid at a surety bond company. It is also refundable upon my deployment to the US. The $1000 they are asking from you is very exorbitant and I advice you to look for another agency. Though I heard from my nurse friends that almost all of the agencies are now requiring surety bond. Happy holidays to all!
  15. Here are my personal tips in finding a good agency. Some are my experiences. If it's really the last resort as what lawrence has said. Though most Filipinos are more than willing to bite the bullet. Myself included. (Not necessarily in order of importance): 1. A good agency should have at least a 1/8 page of advertisement in the classified ads section of a Sunday issue of major newspaper . If the ad is placed at the "per line" section, forget about it. You should not trust an agency scrimping on advertising budget. 2. Do read carefully the initial come-ons like "free this and that". If there is nothing in the ad about the expenses that will be shouldered by the agency (e.g free I-140 petition, NCLEX and IELTS fees etc.) chances are you will be paying for them. And this will be a case of a nurse jumping out of the pan and straight into the fire. 3. Call the agency and ask them to elaborate on what was stated in their ad. They should have competent employees who have enough knowledge about immigration process concerning nurses. If they don't know what is EB3 Schedule A and they give you the runarounds that is a clear sign of what is going to come if you do sign with them. 4. Make a personal visit to the agency. If the office they are occupying is close to being dilapidated, furnitures that house immigrant insects, office equipments from pre-war era, you should immediately run coz you are their chance to move in to a better location. Don't be a willing prey to them. A good agency should have a decent office. 5. Observe the people in the agency. They should be warm towards you and you should not be treated like an ordinary worker to be deployed somewhere in the middle east or middle earth. Remember that a nurse is an unpolished gem that is waiting for her karats to shine (i.e. successfully relocated to the USA). You can make them smile if you tell them the substantial amount they will earn from your two or three-year contract with them. These are my tips in finding a good agency for US in the contract pre-signing stage. Take your time in reading the fine prints of the contract. Ask for what you think is lacking as what other agencies are offering. Ask your friends who are currently under contract from an agency if they are not experiencing any problem from them. Think thrice before signing a contract. Bear in mind that it is legally binding and if you breach it it will always haunt you.
