Nursing as a Career in Canada (Calgary, AB)
I do not know very much about international recruitment for nurses in Canada. However, Calgary Health Region currently has a job posting for international nurse recruitment. Here is the link to the job posting: http://www.crha-health.ab.ca/supp/hr/employ/072345.htm Hope this helps, Krista

Nursing as a Career in Canada (Calgary, AB)
Hi Jan, Thank-you for responding to my post so quickly. My husband and I are from St. John's, Newfoundland. We are as far east from Calgary as you can go in Canada. 40 - 7.75 shifts in 8 weeks.... That schedule is similar to what the majority of the population works. Do the nurses in calgary work the majority of days when they are on the day/evening/weekend schedule or do they work an even number of days, evenings and weekends. The reason why I asked if the OR's run 24 hours a day is because I have seen a number of posts that ask for a recovery room/operating room nurse to work nights such as this one. http://www.crha-health.ab.ca/supp/hr/employ/069199.htm. I start my recovery room rotation on Feb 5th. I am very excited. Sorry for responding to your post so late. I worked all day at my public health placement. Have a great day! Krista

Nursing as a Career in Canada (Calgary, AB)
Hi Janfrn, Your posts have been so informative. My husband recently accepted a new job in Calgary that is suppose to start in August. I will be graduating from nursing school with a BSN this upcoming May and I am in the process of putting together a resume to submit to CRHA within the next few weeks. I was wondering if you could answer a few questions for me. They are as follows: - Are you aware of how many days/evenings/and weekends are worked in the day/evening/weekend schedule? - I am currently doing my senior nursing practicum in the recovery room. Do you know if the OR's in Calgary run 24 hours a day? Any information on the recovery room would be greatly appreciated. - Also, I am wondering if you have any information regarding public health nursing positions in Calgary (ex.availability, schedule)? Sorry for the detailed question list. I am right in the middle of filling out the new grad application and have a lot of questions right now. Thank-you so much for your help :wink2: Krista

Any Calgary Nurses?
Hi Everyone, My husband just recieved a job offer for Calgary this upcoming summer. We are very excited about our upcoming move. I was just wondering if anyone who has worked in Calgary could shed some light about the scheduling of nursing shifts in Calgary. My particular area of interest is the recovery room; but, I would greatly appreciate any information that can be provided. Thanks, Krista

Paid Time Off
I'm sorry if this sounds like a very silly question. I am from Canada and we have annual leave which seems a little different than PTO. My question..... If a nurse is scheduled to work 72 hours/pay period or 6 12 hr shifts/pay period does he or she need to use 14 days of their allowed paid time off or just 6 days of their paid time off to acquire two weeks of vacation? Thanks in advance for any help that can be provided. Again, I'm sorry if this question sounded silly.

CRNE or NCLEX???
Hi Everyone, I feel so confused.... I plan on hopefully working in the united states when I graduate. This has always been a hope of mine. However, I cannot decide if I should write the CRNE and the NCLEX or just the NCLEX. I think if I write the CRNE I will automatically be considered by the Canadian government to be a resident of Canada because I have a professional licence and this means that I will have to pay both Canadian and American taxes. If I just write the NCLEX, I might be able to get my Canadian residency waived and just pay American taxes. Any thoughts please...... Krista

NCLEX wait?
Hi, I was wondering if you could the approval from school once you finish your courses or does it have to be after you graduate. Thanks

Hi Ninacf, Thank-you so much for responding to all of my questions. It is greatly appreciated. I was wondering if you get a choice in the shifts you work. Can you pick between day and night shifts? What time do you start work in the mornings? I have so many questions . . . . . Again, Thank-you so much. It has been so nice hearing from you. If you ever need any information about Canada, I will be more than happy to do whatever I can to help you. Have a great day! Krista

Dubai/uae
Hi Everyone, I have noticed that in the past little while, there have been some recent posts about the UAE. I am hoping that someone out there can answer some of my questions. My husband is an electrical engineer. He thinks that his job may be transferred to the UAE in the upcomming September. This news is quite new to us. A little frightening actually. I however, am completing the final year of my Canadian BScN degree. By the time he has to leave, I will be finished my degree. We are both Canadian citizens. Here are some of my questions ... . . . . 1. Is it possible for a new nursing graduate to get a job in the UAE? I've noticed that most jobs seem to be for experienced nurses. 2. I will not need the benefit of accomadation as this is included for us in my husbands benefit package. Is it possible to get extra pay to compensate for this benefit? 3. What is the work schedule like - 6 days a week? Can a nurse pick between day and night shifts? 4. The all famous question..... What is the salary/benefit package like? Any help with my questions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
