Travel contract. Is this reasonable pay!??

Published

I am starting an assignment in Connecticut. this is the contract pay.

Regular Rate: $16.59

On Call Rate: $4.00

Call Back Rate: $24.89

Holiday Rate: $24.89

Per Diem Rate: $35.00/day

Missed Shift Adjustment: $18.00/hr

Subsidy: $1800.00 monthly, calculated as a per-day amount, paid in each pay check.

??

Does this seem legit?

Completely legit. Whether it is fair or not is a pointless question at this point as you have already accepted it. The only way to find out if you are being paid market rate is by calling other agencies for quotes on similar geographic assignments. I will say that most assignments pay $40 to $50 an hour and yours only pays $35 (plus another $2.50 an hour for payroll taxes using PanTravelers Calculator). So that is certainly on the low end as quoted. You didn't mention travel pay or health insurance though.

I'd be more concerned about overtime pay, especially if call and OT is mandatory. At $25 an hour, that is a $10 an hour pay cut over the compensation received for regular hours. For this contract, you should be getting closer to $50 an hour OT.

Lesson learned for your next assignment! You can try to negotiate the OT rate now, it is in your agency's best interest to encourage you to work OT.

Apparently, travel reimbursement is included in the subsidy.??

You would have to ask. Tax wise it should be separated from housing and per diems.

That is pretty low. Never accept an assignment or sign until you are 110% sure you want.

I'm curious what company this is with. I haven't had a missed shift adjustment on a contract in a long time.

I'd be curious what agencies you have worked for that do not have a missed shift penalty. What the heck happens if you work zero shifts? Free housing, travel, and per diem with no billable hours? There has to be a way to recover those costs. You can put the above in a contract on a per hour basis (this used to be fairly common), but the IRS would come down hard on such language as "reimbursements" are not supposed to be based on work hours.
