Are there any nurses out there who are working in the area of organ transplantation?
I have been involved in heart transplant in one way or another for the past 8 years.
I have written to alllnurses.com to ask if they would consider adding transplant nursing as a specialty forum.
Just wanted to see if there were any others interested.

Hi Tony,
Heart or lung or heart/lung transplants is part of what the cticu I work at does along with other cardiac/thoracic and vascular surgery.
You could probably fire up discussions about transplant on the ccu or med/surg icu forums under the critical care section of these boards.
Your idea about a separate forum is not a bad one though! :)

I work in Liver, Kidney, Pancrease, and rarely small bowel transplantation. I work in the SICU. I think a seperate forum for transplant nurses is a great idea! I hope one gets added.

I work with lung, kidney, and kidney/pancrease transplant patients. A transplant forum isn't a bad idea.

Yes, yes, a transplant nursing forum would be great! Tomorrow I start working as an LPN extern (currently starting 4th semester of ADN RN program) in transplantation. I am also a liver recipeint, 5 years now, which is what got me interested in nursing. I would love a transplant nursing forum.

Hey Nurseboy.....Any guidelines you can give me for renal transplant care is welcome.....
Articles you can direct me to?
I will be assuming care for a 7 day post op renal transplant patient. I looked for information on yahoo and google, but so far no nursing care specifics.
It will be a home patient, and I welcome any info you can provide.
Thanks.

I work on a Bone Marrow Transplant Unit. It can be rewarding, although there is still a long way to go with regards to sucess rate versus the level of suffering a person is willing and able to withstand.
