Transitioning from FNP to Acute Care in school

So I didn't get into the Acute Care program I applied for that starts this fall. I'm bummed, but I feel like it was an interviewer situation more than anything else and I'm looking forward to trying again.

However, I really don't want to wait a whole year. I'm already taking nondegree classes so I have the head start there. I am thinking about applying to that schools FNP program that starts in Spring 19 since the classes are the same for the first year and a half. If nothing else, perhaps I could get my FNP and then the post grad certificate for Acute Care.

My question is, are you generally allowed to apply for another program at the same school once you are already accepted? Is it looked down upon?

I realize this is a convoluted way to get what I want, I am being stubborn and only considering one school at this point.

I don't think so. I was enrolled in my school's FNP program and I applied for their ENP program later that year once they were accepting applications. The ENP program at my school is primarily postmaster's, through, but some of the program can be done concurrently with the FNP portion. I haven't heard of dual FNP-ACNP done at the same time, though. Usually the second certification is done postmasters. I think it would be too much to do them at the same time considering all of the clinical hours that you will have to do.

It will often depend on the school and their willingness to let you switch. At frontier, the midwife and FNP students spent a good amount of curriculum in the same class until a point where it split. Some classes from there overlapped while others didn't. They did accommodate switches because they aren't heavy on controlling class sizes. In a situation where the school only has X-sized classes and the one you want has a stronger limit, they probably will be less likely to allow you to change majors.
