Transferring RN license

Published

Hi all! I am currently residing in a noncompact state with an RN license but plan to move to a compact state. I had a few questions:

1: does applying for a license or temporary license in a different state void my home state license?

2: when I do get a license in a different state, do I still have a license in my home state? so basically, will I be able to practice in my home state and the other state as well?

3: what is the average wait time for a temp license and how long do they last?

1. No

2. Yes and yes

3. That depends on the state

And you can't actually "transfer" a license. It's usually called "applying by endorsement".

so the state is Arizona. I currently reside in Ohio. I want to apply for a license, do I have to reside in Arizona to get the license or can I get the license prior to moving. I plan on moving in the next 2 months, as long as I get the license and a RN position.

In order for it to be a compact license and not a single state license, you must reside in the state. You can apply before moving, but it will only be valid in AZ until you reside there and convert to a compact license.

You can still practice while holding multiple state licenses. As long as you renew and pay on time, you can hold how ever many licenses you want.

As far as applying for an endorsement in another state, it all depends. Some BONs are quicker than others. In the state I live in now, it took about 2-3 weeks.

I will also be applying for RN endorsement in Arizona from Washington. Are we able to submit fingerprints early to speed up the process? Or do they need to be submitted with the application?
