Transferring from Baker College of Owosso...but where do I go?

Run Run Run while you still can!!!!!! That is the worst school ever for nursing. I have numerous friends that have gone to Baker Clinton Township. There is many reasons not to go to this school, First the price, they are very expensive. second they play alot of games, for a school that has such high expectations from thier students they sure do not follow through when it comes to their part. I know that thier are some schools that take thier credits such as Macomb Community, Davenport, Wayne community, I also think Oakland. I know from talking with people who were in thier program that when things fell apart for them looking at other schools that other schools only take pre reqs not the core Nursing classes thats where you lose. I think you are doing the best thing, from what I know by looking at your options. Having many long talks with friends. They all say the same thing I wish I would have followed my intutions and ran before I got into deep, but in hind sight you work so hard so when you get that far its hard to turn down the opportunity. My friend said she keep saying to her self if "she only knew she would be able to get in for sure somewhere else she would go. But to turn down this opportunity and never get a oppotunity agian is to much to bare" But in the end she wished she had ran.Because after all the time you waste and the therapy you need after words, they would have been better off going elsewhere. Thank you so much for the reply and I couldn't agree more! What I have found is that most of the pre-reqs do transfer, however not the core nursing classes. This is disappointing but not completely unexpected. It is worth it to me to start over in a new nursing program than to be affiliated with this program!

Knowing what I know, they must all be the same. ANYONE WHO IS GOING TO BAKER RUN! They will take all your money and leave you with nothing it happens a little to often. Goos luckif you stay. you casn never find out a straight answer. Just Run ius all I can say.

I am currently at Baker and haven't had any problems. I do wish they would explain to people how competitive it is to get in before they start classes. But I haven't been treated badly or given the run around. Maybe other campuses are different but I have really enjoyed Baker-Flint. I like that it does not have a waiting list, but I chose that because I knew I could get really good grades. If I hadn't been able to I would have tried a school with a waiting list that was not competitive. Baker Flint has a 100% pass rate for the state license board, I am friends with a few student who have just graduated/are graduating recently and they all enjoyed the program. I don't like that if you don't get in a lot of your classes don't transfer, but they are pretty open about that. Im sorry that you had a bad experience there!

It is a competitive program, and they absolutely do not mention how hard it is to get in. I attended Baker Clinton Twp., and although I have a score that I'm sure I would get in with this fall (24.27 out of 24), I'm not even going to apply, and I'm going to go to Macomb (I got accepted into their program at the same time I needed to re-apply at Baker). The whole reason I chose MCC was because of the accreditation. They are MBON accredited, but not NLN, which really is a big deal, and they don't talk about that. They also tell new students that all they have to do is get a B- or better and they'll be in good shape. When, really, they should be telling people they need nothing lower than one A-.... this past application period, the lowest they took was 23.75 out of 24.... which basically equals out to one A- or so. I wish I could have my time, money and effort spent at Baker back.

Well said! I am glad that you have chosen MCC. When I started at Baker of Owosso (pre-reqs) we were told that accreditation was right around the corner and they would have it by the time we entered the program. Low and behold they are still seeking accreditation. I have found that the instructors at my campus are not completely invested in their students. So kudos to you for choosing elsewhere. Also, I am sure that every campus has it's pros and cons.

I have to say as I read these horror stories. I am so glad I left Baker of clinton township. I have mention above all the reasons why. But most of all I have watched a bunch of fellow friends that were accdepted into Bakers program get really screwed up with that school. I got accepted into MCC thank goodness or I would have been stuck there also. I have listen to friends cry and tell me the horror stories the same as Gypsy 76 has spoken of. I really feel bad for you but keep your head up and no matter how bad things are know you can leave and still become a nurse. A friend that was at Baker with me left when things feel apart for her and she cried and was not sure if she could go on. This is how I found out the Nursing core credits do not transfer. Since then she has moved on and sucked it up and is now attending WCCCD. you can do it it is just a little set back in the road. When you get through with all this it will be extra special. Just a small set back for your dreams. Smile you"ll do it. :nurse:

I am still looking into a few places. As of right now I am looking into Kirtland Community College of Roscommon and Saginaw Valley State University. I have all of the pre-reqs done for the program at Kirtland but cannot apply until Dec 1st. For SVSU, I still have two terms of general education classes to complete towards their BSN program. SVSU's program starts in January 2011, so this is probably where I will end up.
