Transfer student in California

Published

Getting my acceptance letter to nursing school was the happiest day of my life! A semester and two failed classes later, I am officially OUT of nursing school. I tried a medical appeal but they still said no.

How many of you have gone through this and what did you do? Looks like I missed the cutoff for the majority of ADN programs for spring and may have to wait till next fall.

Besides being absolutely devastated, I am determined more than ever to get my MSN, especially since the director of my school suggested becoming a CNA or medical assistant. Not that there is anything wrong with either of those (I AM a CNA), I just thought what a thing to say to someone who had told you previously they wanted an MSN!

Anyhow what was the application process like? Many are requesting my clinical record and/or to speak with my clinical instructor. That is fine since I have awesome patient skills. But also many say you must be in good standing, which i am with the school itself just not with the nursing school as they would not take me back.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much

Transferring will be a tough sell if you've actually been dismissed from your prior program. It might be better to apply as a new student. If you have trouble getting accepted into an RN program, it might work to complete an LVN program, then a bridge RN program.

Good luck, in any case.

Agree with Pangea. You will likely have a tough time finding a program that will accept you. Without knowing any details of why you failed and were dismissed (and I'm not asking for details), it is very difficult to know how to advise you. Perhaps find a program that interests you and make an appointment with an Admissions counselor?
