1. Should I risk it?

Greetings!

So this is the story:

I went off to a four year university after I graduated high school in 2009. In the summer of 2010 I went back home and decided to take some summer classes at my local community college, I turned in my official college transcripts from the university to the community college at that time.I ended up dropping out of those classes that summer so I didn't earn any credit. Fall 2010 came and I returned to the four year university, however I decided to leave the university after that semester. I had dropped most of my classes and had only earned 3 credits for a speech class I had taken. I came home and attended a technical school for medical assisting which I graduated from in Oct of 2011 and then started working Jan of 2012. I started back taking classes at the same community college that summer semester and have been taking classes and doing very well, I currently have a 3.5 GPA.

My dilemma:

I am finishing up my pre reqs for the ADN program at the community colllege. One of the requirements to apply is that all of my transcripts have been turned into the college. I am not able to get my transcript from the four year university because they are on hold until I pay them $800. (My parents were supposed to pay this for me after I had left the school, but they never did.) I don't know how I am going to come up with all the money before this August (when I plan to apply to the program). I am thinking about applying to the program without sending in my transcript, the school already has my transcripts that I had turned in before and that speech class I took isn't required for the ADN program. I won't be using financial aid (hopefully) so there isn't really any way they are going to see I was at the four year university for a semester that they don't have transcripts for.

I don't know if I should risk it or not lol

So what do you guys think?

I have talked with the collection agency and they aren't really willing to work with me. I tried to work out a payment arrangement but they wanted monthly payments of $300, which I just can't do right now. I'm not really looking for this problem to "go away" I figure that if I can finish RN school I will be making so much more money than what I am making now and by then I will be able to pay off this debt. So by the time I am going for my BSN it will be paid off. But I get where you are coming from.

Thanks for posting

Have you verified whether or not there really are nursing jobs in your area? Many new grads who believed they would be hired straight out of school have struggled to find their first job.

Dishes

Yes the place that I am currently employed has promised me a job when I finish nursing school. They would turn my current position from a medical assistant to an RN position with a significant pay increase.

Thanks for the laugh!

But they do know about the Fall and Spring Semester Courses you did at the University, since they have a copy of that transcript. There are gaps in your education which will lead them to ask for an updated transcript from the 4-University (or other possible Colleges) to determine if additional Course work was attempted. Well, since you dropped a number of courses for that last semester you were at that University, those Ws could potentially count against you if you end up repeating one or more of the same courses multiple times. So it is more than just the missing 3-credit Speech Course.

What would you say is your Cumulative/Overall GPA to date? I know you said that you have a 3.5 GPA the Community College and a 2.0 at the University you withdrew from. Technically, how many College Level Courses did you complete at the "University" to earn this 2.0? You said you completed all the Remedial Courses with As and Bs and ONLY completed the 3-Credit Speech Course with an A. Does the remedial Courses factor into your GPA at the University? I guess I'm trying understand where this 2.0 is coming from and how will this affect your overall (Cumulative) GPA. I find it hard to believe you spent a whole year at a University and only completed (at most) two Remedial Mathematics and English Classes (1 math and 1 English per Semester - assuming of course that you needed two Remedial Courses each to get to College Level Math and English).

What do you think QuietRiot? Timeline is conception enough for you? :)

Exactly! I feel like they won't ask for transcripts that they don't know about. I honestly don't feel like I am lying because the only course they don't know I took was speech and it isn't a requirement for the nursing program and I got an A in the course so if anything, it would actually count towards my application by boosting my GPA.

Psata

Well if you must know here are the classes I took.

Fall 2009

Remedial Math 1-A

Remedial Reading 1-B

Remedial Writing 1-B

Theatre 101-C

Spring 2010

Remedial Math 2-A

Remedial Reading 2-B

Remedial Writing 2-B

So I yeah, I had a theatre class I just remembered about. The whole reason I started this topic was to get opinions about transcripts. Honestly if you don't have any advice about it or you haven'tgone through this dilemma, I don't know why you are commenting. I joined this site for advice.

Thanks.

Recently I met with an adviser at a local CC regarding their ADN program. I submitted my transcripts from the college I received a BFA from and two other CC's where I took a handful of classes after. During the meeting she asked if I had turned in a transcript from XXX CC. I forgot that I had taken one class there during my freshman year summer break. This one class was not relevant to the program. She told me that my application would be thrown out and I would be ineligible for the year if I was missing even one transcript. I am not sure how she knew about this one college. Possibly a SS# check?

if financial aid was used they can look you up on the

National Student Loan Data System for Students

I've seen this work both ways. I have seen people get through fine w/o providing all their transcripts...and I've seen people get caught. And those that were caught were asked to provide transcripts from ABC college, which was most likely discovered during a financial aid search.

I've also known people, that have flat out told their college that they were not going to used their old transcripts, because they were starting over.

Personally if a college has a policy of not accepting credits from 5,10yrs ago then I don't see the rationale in requesting 5,10yr old transcripts.

And here we go again..What if...What if ...What if they said nothing or never found out ?and she graduated from the program and became a nurse?

SMH.

You should also look into other schools to increase your chances.

however in the meantime send in your application and call it a day...either they let you in or they don't..The speculation is belaboring

Nothing beats a failure but a try.

PS. If you're that worried you could also run a check on yourself at the student loan database or the national clearinghouse website....

So no, I have never EXPECTED anyone to pay for anything for me I have paid for all of my schooling out of pocket since I left university. I am just blessed enough to have parents who want to help their daughter better herself. They love me.

Thanks for your post

Well if you think that them paying for your education is them showing their love, then they must not since you told us the debt remains...

I think that you want to hear that what you are doing is right. You have received plenty responsed from Licensed professionals who have told you that your current plan is a poor one. At some point you should make better choices and pay the debt that is due. Now or when you graduate (if accepted into school) is up to you.

You guys are hilarious! Now my parents don't love me because they didn't pay the debt? Do you even read for comprehension? Or do you just read and make up something negative from it? WOW.

I put this topic up for advice from those who have either gone through this situation or know something about it. I have considered everyone's advice (those who give it without insulting me) and it has helped me to get a better understanding of what I am going to do. That is all I am asking for is advice, not for everyone to agree with my plan. In fact the more advice I get against my plan the better as it shows me that it probably isn't the best idea.I would hope that everyone would try to keep it professional since we are all here to get into nursing school, I just don't know where all the hostile comments are coming from lol

:sarcastic:

@ studentih. I have to agree with you, this is not about opinions. I know you're seeking advice. I really don't know what to tell you either. I had to even get my Master's transcript sent to my CC. So I agree they will ask you about ALL TRANSCRIPTS. Maybe try explaining the entire situation to an advisor where you're applying. They may have a suggestion and give you more time after you're accepted, to get it in. I don't think I would risk them finding out or risk not earning more credits. Good luck! SN: $1 is a lot of money to someone who doesn't have it!

Hi! This has happened to me before and I missed out on opportunities that would have been very beneficial to me. I think you should try to obtain employment with a temporary agency. Since Wal-Mart is open 24 hours (in most locations) it may even be possible for you to work for them. You can earn the $800 in a month.

Best Wishes!
