i just want to ask if the dialysis centers mentioned here have websites so I can apply online...thanks! I tried to search for those centers but my research led me here...

Nephrogroup has a Facebook page, but I wouldn't suggest getting in touch with them thru it. It's seldom being updated, and it's more impressive on the part of the company if you actually visit their center/office and talk to the persons in charge of recruiting trainess or hiring employees.

Is there some hindrance as to why you would rather send your application online?

To all aspiring and current hemodialysis trainees, make the most of the training. That's the first step towards a rewarding career. You never know when suddenly the renal facility you're training on will be short staffed and would need new staff nurses, and the quickest way to fill the need is to tap the current pool of trainees or recent trainees. And when you become staff nurses, just count the years of experience and you'll realize you are more than qualified to what hospitals and clinics abroad are asking for.

Also, attend as much seminars as possible. The NKTI holds an annual post graduate course in dialysis, usually at the month of October. That's one venue to learn a lot about renal nursing. St. Luke's post grad courses are in June or July. Also, the Renal Nurses Association of the Philippines conducts monthly updates and lectures about renal concepts. You just need to be a member of RENAP to be eligible to attend their updates.

There's a lot to learn in renal nursing. Even if I've read 4 handbooks of dialysis, attended numerous seminars, and learned a lot in the clinical area, I still get to be acquainted with new things every day. This forum itself is a place where to get different views and new knowledge regarding this field of nursing practice.

thank you for the information. i've never really taken an interest in renal nursing until recently, because of a family member. i've always thought of it as difficult. but now, knowing there are various seminars and training programs that can provide someone with the skills needed, i hope i can pursue it.

Yes, that's why when you get the chance to have the training be the best trainee that you can be.

It impresses your preceptors when you show initiative, prudence and leadership while on the program.

i'll keep that in mind!

can you recommend a book i should read on for starters? what i have here is the latest sauders reviewer, brunner and the usual. mostly just nclex reviewers, so renal nursing is not really discussed thoroughly.

You must read Handbooks of Dialysis.

I have those by Daugirdas, Gutch, Ahmed, and Oxford University Press.

Try starting with the handbook by Gutch, it's the most easy to understand. Those by Daugirdas and Oxford Univ are for more detailed readings.

I was about to lose hope until i have read your message. I finished 3 months hd training with this specific hd center (i prefer not to mention the name) and i can say that the training was very good and very individualized since the ratio is 1:1 with the preceptor, i learned a lot from that center, my only problem is after that 3months training they are not allowing their trainees to extend even as volunteers. I passed my resume and credentials to some freestanding hd centers,but got no reply from them since I believe that they need more than 3 months dialysis experience which is i am lacking. I am looking for hd centers where I can apply as staff nurse who will accept my credentials and would let me start asap even as volunteer/trainee for the meantime. I tried calling lots of hd centers here in manila but they are not accepting applicants even as volunteer since they have their own trainees as well. And since I already spent large amount of money for my previous hd training, I dont want to re-train spending another thousands. Do you know other hd centers accepting volunteers? Thank you.
