I have a friend at work whose son was just recently diagnosed with toxoplasmosis. I have heard of this in pregnant women before, from handling litter boxes, or improperly cooked meat, but never in a teenage boy.
He started out with a couple of inguinal lymph nodes and flu like symptoms with weakness. The doctor ended up removing 2 nodes and sent them for testing.
I am trying to find as much information for her as I can--and you guys always seem to be a wealth of info.
It is an opportunistic infection , usually shows up in people who had some type of immune insuffiency, natural low IGG levels, organ transplant patients or HIV patients
Yeah, it isn't gender specific...pregnant women are vulnerable because of the potential harm to the fetus, not to themselves and not because they're female.
