Hi all...I've been a nurse for decades, I'm asking this for my daughter in law.We (the entire family) want to move to a beach town that is an hour from the nearest college with a nursing program. The problem is my DIL wants to go to nursing school. Are there any programs that are totally online, for someone who is NOT a nurse currently?

Jul 4, 2016 Short answer, no.There maybe hybrid classes, but the only hybrid classes I know of are for LVN to RN bridge programs. She would still have to commute for clinicals.

The only totally online nursing programs are bridge programs for those who already have licensure as LPNs or paramedics. A person cannot go from zero to nurse without attending class and clinical rotations.

It's an ADN at Excelsior college..As I mentioned in my previous post, you cannot go from zero to nurse online. Since the OP has no LPN licensure and is not a paramedic, she would not qualify for admission into Excelsior College's ASN program.Again, no totally online prelicensure nursing programs exist. The ASN program offered by Excelsior College is not a true prelicensure nursing program because candidates must be licensed as an LPN/LVN or paramedic in order to enroll.

It's not that big a deal.Yep...I commuted 95 miles one-way to the LVN program that I attended, and my drive was five days per week for one year.I also commuted 225 miles one-way to the LPN-to-ASN program that I attended.
