Totally flabbergasted

Some similiar happened to me when I was trying to get my I-9 form notarized. I had to go to another kinko's to get a notary done. I don't know what they think they are liable for? It was such a pain, and they were being completely unreasonable.

I went to Wachovia Bank to have my I-9 notorized and the notary said that he could not sign it. I called my agency and let them know what happened. They e-mailed me a letter to give to the notary that explained what they were signing and why. I went to a different Wachovia and the notary was willing to sign it without reading the letter. My friend had the same issue and she was able to get a signature at the same bank without any issues.

I went to get my I-9 notarized today, and the notary refused to fill out the section where she verifies my birth certificate and ID. She notarized the signature I gave, but that's it. Spoke to my recruiter, who said that the form clearly states that the notary is released from all liability for this, and she should re-read the instructions. I went back to her and again she refused. As assertively as I could I showed her the federal part of the form that clearly states that because this is a traveling contract, and the employer is located in Florida, that a notary is perfectly allowed to do this and not responsible in any way. She huffed and puffed until I demanded she ask her supervisor, or to let me talk to him, so after 5 minutes, she came out and told me that he told her not to, because they didn't want "the liability." I reminded her there WAS NO LIABILITY, and I was really upset that she wasn't even willing to read the form. All she had to do was look at my birth certificate, my drivers license, and verify that it was me and that the documents were original! It is no different than any other time she notarizes anything and I didn't understand her problem. All she kept saying was, I dont want to be responsible for that, I can't risk it, bla bla bla until I told her, Well thanks very little for your non-help, and since she won't sign it would she like to pay my rent since I cannot get a job now without her notarization? (I'll get a new form and go to someone else, but still, I wasn't feeling very nice.)

I am amazed..has this ever happened to anyone else?

Go to a different notary.

The same thing happened to me. The notarys are not understanding what they are signing and why. And won't let you explain it. Boy are they dense.
