Took my TEAS V this morning, first try.

So I found out 2 weeks ago that if I wanted to, I could sit the TEAS and potentially enroll in the ADN program starting on the 27th at Keiser University Melbourne. Keiser is different than most schools as it requires TEAS scores before any prerequisite course material is done: ie, they expect applicants to be college freshmen who intend to complete their prerequisites in freshman year, and start their core in 2nd year.

So I said what the hell. I'm not getting any younger, and putting this off is just delaying my dreams. So I signed up, got out the ATI TEAS V study manual, and started reading and practicing. I remembered NOTHING of math beyond the simple order of operations; I had to re-learn all of my fractions, decimals, percentages, ratios, proportions, inequalities, irrational numbers, algebraic expressions, solving for X etc etc etc.... And let's not even TALK about Science. The first part was easy, second part made me want to cry. For you all who are preparing for the TEAS I hope it is okay to say that the TEAS is harder than what the manual preps you for - beware!!!!

Anyway, I studied, stressed, cried, and swore I'd never pass it for the past two weeks. Went in this morning and was strangely calm. Blew through the test in about half the allotted time... and as I realized how fast I had finished, I just knew I had bombed it. I thought when I submitted my final English question I would have to go up to the desk to fetch my results, so when they popped up and I read them I audibly gasped, I wish I hadn't, I felt bad, because...

TEAS V Adjusted Individual Total Score - 84.0%. Academic preparedness level: Advanced.

Reading (Required Score 76) - 92.9%

Math (Required Score 75) - 90.0%

Science (Required Score 59) - 72.9%

English and Language Usage (Required Score 70) - 83.3%

I am so incredibly happy, words cannot even express. All this worrying and studying and going absolutely nuts was worth it. So to all of you who are taking the TEAS with very little background knowledge and not much study time, you CAN do it!!!!!! I owe it all to that study guide, and all of you for your helpful posts!!!

Thanks RD! I am confused on something though. I see a lot of people talking about overall or adjusted scores on here. Some I have seen have not passed every minimum but still passed the TEAS. How does that work?

The Adjusted Individual Total Score is your overall score on the exam. Then you are graded by section, and under each section's grade it lists each component of the section and your grade for each, letting you know what you missed and what you nailed.

It is entirely dependent on the nursing program you have chosen as to which scores matter. Some judge your Academic Preparedness Level (which is based off your Individual Score, listed under it on your results). Some base it on the percentile for the nation that you fall into (in my case, 94th.) Some base it on your program percentile (for ADN, I fell at a 95th.) Some judge your overall score. And then certain schools break it down by section and have minimum requirements for each section. Some schools do not count certain sections. It varies. All you have to do is know the requirements at your particular school of choice. :)

I used the TEAS V study guide published by ATI. It was my bible. I did both practice exams in the back as well as the practice questions included throughout the text. It is a great resource. :)

Not personally, but I have met some really great nurses while I was a patient in Holmes Regional who were Keiser grads, and they said they loved it and that it is a great school. I had my formal interview with the dean today, and she automatically accepted me!!! My core starts Sep 3, 2013 :) I am very pleased - and also scared out of my mind LOL... I can't believe I made it this far and it only gets harder from here!!
