..and found out on Monday that I failed. Ouch, there goes 200 dollars. I did the Kaplan review, and a bit of Saunders, and was getting scores on Kaplan that showed that I would pass 100%.
The story gets more complicated, and I have a question for all of you. I actually got a job at the Mayo ICU before I took this exam. I am actually scheduled to start next week. Do you think because of this stupid exam I lost my position? I mean, what's the worst they can do? Have I lost the job? I'm really scared.
Another thing pertaining to the exam, I don't feel this exam adequately tests the knowledge of a nursing student, and I feel cheated. The set of 75 questions which I got was preposterous. I have been working as a student assist in the ICU for all of last semester, and this is exactly my specialty, and it is what my job will be. I had NO ICU questions in this entire exam, instead I was thrown questions on topics such as schizophrenics having sex and strange situations with elders and cats in the same household. What is this? My job is on the line because I answered such questions wrong? Also, I don't feel that I'm a weak student, I graduated with almost all A's and with honors...
I'm actually off to fight for my position, but this is so stressful for me. I thought I had studied well, but obviously I need to study more content.
Has anybody else ever had such an experience where a job has been on the line b/c of this exam?

I couldn't imagine that you would lose the position. I am in SD and the facility that I am going to be starting at told me that if nurses don't pass boards the first time, they have a class they offer through the facility that they could take to help them study for boards the second time around. Like I said, I don't think you would lose the position, but I guess I can't speak for Mayo! Best of luck to you! :)
It's good to hear someone with positive things to say :) I also get in phases where I can't imagine that they would throw me out, they would have to do something since I got hired. But then I get scared...I mean, such a place like Mayo..they can do what they want...I'm just so scared, I feel it was by luck that I got in, I have my heart set on this place, and now to lose it. If anybody else has dealt with anything like this, please let me know! I'm going crazy!
Thanks for your quick reply RNMay2008 :)

hi,
[color=#2f4f4f]i know its discouraging to find out you failed, i have 3 times already, but i also had started an internship before my 1st attempt, as soon as i found i failed, i was stripped of the contract along with the $2500 bonus. i was demoted to a cna position, which i did not want, so i went back to my unit sec position which i was before i started the internship. i also had the option of following a nurse around and observing just not doing anything. i learned so much in the month i was in the internship before i tested. but i think most facilities now require you pass before you start any internship or program. please check with your facility...maybe they offer a nclex refresher class (my hospital doesn't)....but remember do not give up, take some time off to clear your head and then get back to preparing to retest. you can do this! best wishes and good luck!

Well, to update, the results are good, they just ended up postponing my start date until December. Turns out many people hired did not pass. Makes me feel alot better :)
