Took NCELX-RN yesterday, graduated a YEAR AGO...

Published

What up, homies? I know, I know, the epitome of ignorance = me! So, I took the NCELXRN yesterday (for the first time, by the way). And when I say I graduated a YEAR ago, it was quite literally a YEAR ago (May 5th, 2010). Why did I wait so long? Well for one, I did the paramedic to RN transition program, so it was only a year long. Then five DAYS after graduation, I was in fire academy and that was approximately six months long. Then, the other six months, I pretty much just ****** away working as a medic on the box because that is my true passion. Time was counting down because I recently accepted a position overseas (12 month contract) and figured I should probably bang that out before I go. I scheduled it so I could study for three weeks. Well one SOLID week I was dead to the world with some sort of flu. I've never had anything knock me out for so long. Then another week my friend from Texas was visiting, and I was preoccupied. The last week I was just "having fun" going to BBQ's, hanging out, going out, etc. Two days before the test, in the afternoon, I call up Pearson Vue and want to reschedule, like a week later maybe. Give me more time to study and all. Well, I paid for it in February, and they only give you three months from when you pay. Long story short, I basically HAD to take it on Wednesday, and that phone call was Monday afternoon at 1400! I ran home and studied. I have a few books I wanted to go through, but didn't have enough time. I mean, a DAY AND A HALF TO STUDY FOR THIS CRAP? I know, I know, I'm completely irresponsible. I made it through one book, was a good review of everything... But, I don't think I did well (I know, big surprise lol). I took it Wednesday and it took me like four and a half hours. I got the full 265. My head was going to explode at the end I wanted to Christmas tree it. You can only be in a room for so long, looking at a computer screen, before your eyes get jacked. The whole ride home my EYES were like killing me. I'm pretty sure it didn't go well. I was always a bright one in class with very little effort, but you all know, this NCLEX is no joke. The masterful combination of my ill preparation, laxadaisical study habits, and out of nursing school for a full YEAR... Yeah, is just not a good thing. Such is life...

Congrats on ya success!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:nurse::hug:

Hey guys!

So, the book is called "Illustrated Study Guide for the NCLEX-RN" (NCLEX, not NLCEX ;)

http://www.amazon.com/Illustrated-Study-Guide-NCLEX-RN%C2%AE-Exam/dp/0323056644/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1304789489&sr=8-1#_

It's found there on Amazon, as I said, GOOFIEST cover ever.

Anyhow, there's something to be said about using that as my ONLY review book and I've been out of school a YEAR. To each their own, take it for what it's worth. Good luck guys, keep on pluggin'

THere is a subtle difference, but my EXACT book looked like this:

http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=illustrated+study+guide+for+nclex+rn&hl=en&rls=com.microsoft:en-us:IE-SearchBox&prmd=ivns&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&biw=1259&bih=615&wrapid=tlif130478978271510&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=4220062218596546191&sa=X&ei=I4PFTczuFdK_tge229y4BA&ved=0CGoQ8wIwAQ#

Also, I heard the CD that goes with the book is very helpful, but I didn't get to use that for the NCLEX because...

I lost it lol. I am so terribly disorganized and careless... : ) Such is life.

Congrats!Thanks for sharing your resource. Good luck with your career.

Thanks! I ship off in less than ten days to work overseas as a private contractor (paramedic). Going to the Middle East sandbox!
