Took California NCLEX-RN Exam Aug 23, still waiting for official results

Published

So hear is my story. I took the CA NCLEX in San Dimas on August 23rd. It shut off at 75. I had some 23 SATAs, an ECG, 3 select the correct order, and the rest was multiple choice. I felt like there were only 2 softball questions and when I hit those I got nervous that I wasn't doing well but then got up to a multiple choice and more SATAs. California does not participate in quick results so that is out of the question. I did the PVT once after about 5 hours, again at the 24 hour mark, again 48 hours after that, and most recently on Monday - all with the good pop up. However, I have heard that Pearson changed that and that it may be unreliable now. After waiting on hold for 45 minutes, I finally spoke with someone at the BRN this morning who was pretty much unhelpful. She checked my file and said that everything in my file was in order and that they were just waiting for the results from Pearson. She said to give them; right you guessed it, the standard "2-4 weeks." Then she said, "All I can say is to keep checking the website," and before I could get out my next question of why some people get their results in 48 hours or less and others it seems it takes longer, she flat out hung up on me. I was being sweet as can be too because I know that they hold all the power. I am not even going to repeat what went through my head at that time. I then called Pearson to close the loop. After waiting on hold for 3.5 hours (I was doing other things besides just sitting by the phone), I decided to go back on their website to see what other phone numbers might be available. I then saw a chat feature. I spoke with someone at Pearson and they said that my results had been sent to the CA BRN the same day as I took the exam.

The whole reason for telling my story is to see if there are others out there like me that are currently waiting for their results and figured this may be a place were we can figure out the "black box" together. A couple of things that I have found through research is the following:

  • PVT trick may or not be reliable at this point. Apparently their are false negatives but I really haven't found any evidence of false positives.
  • If you have another option underneath your Manage Applications Tab that shows under the "Choose Application" the option "12 - RN Exam Repeat/Reapply Application, it does not mean that you failed and most likely means that there was a problem in the transfer from Pearson to the CA BRN that requires them to manually grade your results.
  • From others on this forum I have seen results manually processed in as little as 16 days and some as long as 21 days. I have seen longer but that appears to be a few years ago.
  • In California, since we don't participate in the 48 hour Quick Results, it is useless checking PearsonVUE for status. A friend of mine got his license yesterday and still has "Results not available" on PearsonVUE's website.

So who else is unlucky out there like I am being potentially manually processed?

IENurse

So for those of you who may be reading this, I got my results today - I passed and am now an RN! I called the BRN in the morning, let them know that Pearson had in fact sent the results the same day I took the exam. I was then told to check back with them in 3-5 days as she was sending my file to licensing to manually process whatever aspects of my file were preventing the Pearson results from being processed. I honestly didn't expect to hear back from them this soon but am so thankful that everything has been processed. Thankfully the person I spoke with at the BRN was willing to do some work to help me out.

We actually taken our test the same day.

Congrats!

My license was posted on 8/25 on the BRN.
