Took my own advice about job hopping.

I have read articles in past that state that the best way to increase your pay is to change jobs and that is reguardless of the industry in which you work. Have said as much in several post though I got the feeling no one was listening. Am starting new job in a week. Here I am in late my 50s getting a three dollar an hour pay raise with a doubling of my shift differential. Some people have said that they worry about pensions. Well I have not worked in a place that had traditional pension in 12 years. Traditional pensions tend to be pretty paltry anyway. I have oportunity to roll over my 401k and 403b in the past and at the moment am doing a pretty good job of managing them. Oh and the benefits are better also.

Pensions are a thing of the past. If you properly manage a 401k or 403b, you will be set for retirement.

There is no reason to stay on a job where you are being treated poorly or paid a pittance..

Just hired an RN who was making $35.00 hr elsewhere for $27.00 my top salary in dept. We have $3,000 tuition reimbursement so she can pursue her MBA; if going for nursing degree would be $10,000 reimburesment.

With 7% city wage tax, center city parking fees and 30 minute commute, she figured making out actually MORE with my job as only 5 minutes from home.

This is just what I needed to hear- thank you! I am starting a new job next week as my current one has been a very bad. Yes, I will be making more $ and be treated better yet I have still been apprehensive. Think I'll change my perspective, drop the apprehension and hop along!

Yes, everyone has to evaluate their situation very carefully. My old job and my new job are almost exactly alike except I will be making $4 hr. more. I will no doubt work very hard, work short staffed at times and on rare occasions get mandated. I am already doing all that for a lot less money. The new job and old job are exactly the same distance from my home but the new one has cheaper and more plentiful parking.
