Too Many classes...failing out

So I really messed up. I thought if I could push myself I could do two classes at once with my job. Well the new job is extremely demanding more so then i could have imagined and I am now failing out of my BIO class. I tried to study all weekend but i havent had Bio in 7 years Im learnign from scratch and I just cant seem to keep up. Nothing seems to be sinking in. Im taking Alg2 as well. I just found out i cant drop anything now without paying in full. I didnt take a grant..expecting to get a C so my employer would pay. Well now it looks like I will owe 800 for this term Because I am flunking out. I am completely stressed. There is just not enough time in my day to study. And when there is Im so tired from my busy schedule..jeez I wish i would have been smarter about this. The worst part is He does NOT teach the class he just hands out notes and expects us to read over and learn and be ready for the test. I understand that to a point. BUT I didnt pay 800 to teach myself?

Man, I hate those kind of prof's who get paid to have you teach yourself....I hate hate hate those ones...I can watch my own slide show or power point presentation, I don't need someone to read them to me! LOL. But on another note...don't think so negatively. Is there any way you could stick it through and try? Do you have a last day to withdraw and receive a "W". At my school we have until half way through the semester to try and give ourselves a w (withdraw) which doesn't affect our entrance or GPA, although I know it's different in other schools, but it wouldn't hurt to find out. That way you can see if you can pull your grade up and if not, just stick it out and absorb the class, I mean, you already paid for it and if you can't get a refund you might as well get the most out of it so that if you take it again, some of the stuff will already be in your head and you might have notes for it so you can review them. Honestly, I know I don't know you personally, but if you believed you could do it, then I believe you can. I had a similar attitude and had a couple people tell me, "you can do it" and I flew with those encouraging words...you know what? I did. I almost dropped the classes but I ended up doing well because I changed my attitude. If in the back of your mind and heart you know you can do it...trust me, you can do it. But if it's too much, don't make yourself insane, just get the most out of it. Good luck, I hope everything works out!

I am taking Math 101, mind you I figured to take online because I'm a single mom and thought taking this class would work out for me, I work full time so I am just taking one class..well I studied chapters 1 and 2 got all 100's on the homework moduels and was feeling good and all, I took the 1st test yesterday and got a 75!!!!!!!!!!!!! I couldnt believe it..it was all word problems, nothing like the homework examples or the text book! I was in shock!! all to say that I am already DISCOURAGED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:(

Wow, bless your heart, best of luck to you! I"m sorry to hear that you are overloaded, I knew a woman last semester who just couldnt' finish. Drop one and go back next semester, pay your dues, and go on, you cannot beat yourself up too long, life is hard and demanding. Keep us posted k?

Hope2Be, you must be in the same math course Im in, because it is kicking my butt...seriously. You think you're doing bad?

First TWO assignments, I have failed Today, by the grace of God, I got a B on our first test. Talk about cuttin' a rug and doing a happy dance! I feel on top of the world, because I busted my hump for this B. If I would have failed this test, I might as well have called it quits.

Returning to school is not easy. It may be easy to enroll, but it's not easy getting through. But...we can do it! Keep your head up. As a fellow allnurses.com student said to me, 'don't give up'. You absolutely cannot give up. When you feel like throwing in the towel, you just make yourself grab that book, that pen and that piece of paper, and you get back to work. There is no other resolution. Keep the faith, and I will be keeping all of you in my thoughts and prayers. WE CAN DO THIS!

thanks opradiva....I agree that it isnt easy to return to school, I have been out of school for 13 years, and I now remember why I gave up back then....I just feel that if I am having such troubles NOW with BASIC math, how will it be when its time to take the really tough classes like A&P, Micro, and once in the nursing course..have you read all the post on how many students are under such pressure and stress with assesments and clinicals and all the A&P memorization that is required..OMG!! I maybe over reacting, BUT one tooo many students are claiming of feeling overwhelmed with pressure and stress, there must be some truth to it...scary!!!!

but yes, yes though WE shall hang in there and not give up!!!! we CAN do this....hey you got a B on your test, you must be doing something right!!!! I will keep trying I mean what other choices do I have....I HAVE TO DO THIS!!!!

LEXYSTEXT...I agree with nurse2b amy, ..just hang in there...your professor is one of many out there, things are tough now, I have heard from other students that when you are taking a class you dont understand you must study everyday so it can stick, use tape recorders, to tape your own information so when your driving your car or doing something you can listen to the material, use flash cards (make them yourself) to take with you to work(anywhere), make copies of important pages in your book and keep them with you to take out to study (books are heavy) but study anytime you have available...all the time, that is key (easier said then done I know)

wait until its time to start A&P and Micro...what your going thru now is just the beginning, after reading much of the posts from other students and students already in the nursing course, they claim that it is very challenging and most of your time is devoted to studing, having no social life and time with your family is extremely difficult, let alone working a full time demanding job and raising a families...you have to gear u'r mind up and remind yourself that it is only temporary and that there is that 'light at the end of tunnel" how rewarding it is after you have made it...quoted from nursing graduates on this post!!!

HANG IN THERE!!

I'm sure now you have learned from this experience, next semester is a whole nother ball game....a class at a time if you have to....Good Luck)

I have read many posts about stressful classes and all that. I know they are telling the truth. My mother always used to say to me, "Nothing in life worth achieving will be easy". So true. I'm taking A & P right now. As a matter of fact, today's lab was Axial skeleton bones....ALL of them. Mind you, this in in conjuction with the lectures in regular class, and we have a test on those chapters this Tuesday. It's a lot of memorization, but I think the key is to actually learn it, because we will have to know it to do the job. As hard as it is to memorize it all, I think being a personal trainer and fitness professional gives me a huge edge.

One thing I can say is the material is very interesting so that makes studying enjoyable. It's just a lot of info. Now micro is what I'm worried about. Don't have to touch that until next quarter.

Opradiva, I just started micro and am enjoying it immensely. I think it's even more interesting than A&P! Another thing that I am noticing is that the more bio classes I take, the more comfortable I am getting with them. So keep chipping away at learning those cell types and chemical reactions, because they do get easier!

Lexystest, I would just keep going with the class since you're already past the "drop with a refund" date. It may be that the rest of the information comes more easily to you and you could end up with a passing grade. My school lets you withdraw with a W grade as late as April. By the time the deadline comes around, you should have a good idea if you will pass or not. I overcommited last semester and had to drop a class. No fun.

If I may offer a suggestion.......

Check out the stickies at the top of this forum and/or the stickies in the nursing student forum. There are tons of links which might help you out in your BIO class.

Also, there's a link to podcasts stickied above. Read that. Go there. Download some actual lectures or watch them on your computer. I don't know how the general biology ones are, but some of the other subjects seem pretty good. You can also view ones from previous years and semesters. Find an instructor there whose lectures click for you and watch watch watch! :)

so your taking A&P...how was your test? do you find yourself overwhelmed with the info? which is harder the anatomy part or the physiology? i have so many questions, I know, sorry..just want to know what awaits me.

so your a trainer, yeah that sounds like you already have a head start , good for you, sounds like your gonna do great in this class, how many more classes do you need to apply to the nrsg course?

keep me updated. I can use some tips..

I'm at Athens Tech taking prerep's right now. I am applying to NGCSU and Ga Baptist college of nursing. I'm thinking of applying to the Lanier Tech LPN program, just in case.

The test went well yesterday. I studied hard for that one, but it wasn't that much information. In answer to your questions, yes, I do feel very overwhelmed. So much information to absorb. I can't say that Anatomy is harder than physiology. They both pose challenges. It's just a lot of memorization, and for a student like me, I have to sit down with the material and make sense out of all of it. The North GA prereqs list is pretty long. I attended college 5 years ago so some of the classes have already been taken. GA Baptist has a shorter prereq list, but theirs is a BSN program. If I had my choice, I would go to NGCSU, get the ADN, and stay there to complete the BSN program. I think the hardest thing is coordinating my course load for spring and summer quarter. What I'm trying to do is cover my bases so I have the classes necessary to enter any program if the other falls through. GA Baptist requires all prereps to be completed before entering the program, while NGCSU does not.

I found out today that I got into N. GA college. Now I have to take the TEAS test in February, and then it's a waiting game to see if I get into their nursing school. I pray I get in. If not, I will have to take out more loans to go to GA Baptist if I am accepted there. They are pretty expensive.

I don't mind the questions at all. If I can help in any way, let me know.
