Tomorrow is the big day...lpn school starts for me....so many mixed emotions, nervous,excited,scared,happy,etc.....for some reason in the mist of my emotional rollercoaster I feel a huge level of confidence. I no I will do well it's just the fear of the unknown I guess,on top of it all I was fired from my job yesterday. Im not to worried about finances because I have a husband, but I worked in healthcare and felt like actually practicing and learning at work would put me ahead of the game.I can't let that get to me right now I feel god allowed that to happen because he knows I need the time and energy to get through this program.....any suggestions on what to expect, feel free to comment!

Relax; soak up everything like a sponge; get started on good study habits; approach your subjects with the nursing process and like care plans; get NCLEX-Like question reviews; a good care plan book, and above all ENJOY-nursing school and nursing is what YOU make it!!!

You will do just fine. Just pay attention, take notes and don't be afraid to ask questions. It's really not that bad to be honest. Good luck :)

tebrown: if your husband is able to carry the entire financial load, then you're in a great position to do nothing but concentrate on school. They'll push some information at you relatively quickly, but you should be able to quickly adapt to it. The tough part will be having to change your thinking style and test-taking style to NCLEX type stuff. That's often the hardest part of the whole process. You will not be simply regurgitating information you read in a book, you're going to be analyzing the questions and coming up with something new.
I'm in an RN program and I have to tell you that it's no picnic... and LVN isn't either. On the other hand, they do lead you through the material in such a way that you should be able to grasp the concepts and you'll understand the skills they require you to learn before they'll deem you ready to take care of patients in your new role as an LVN student. It's the same for us RN students too.
Do the reading, be in class, pay attention to what the instructors emphasize, and every chance you get to do a skill, do it! What you get from your program will be what you put into it. Take this opportunity that you've been handed by no longer having a job to balance things with and run with it!
All the best!

Good luck. My advice is simple be in class, don't fall behind, enjoy the ride. It's tough but I've been told it's worth it.

Why were you fired from your job, if you don't mind me asking?? You said you worked in healthcare which seems like it would work great with your schooling...
@PD82 If you ask me I think It was personal, soon as I needed to cut back hours for school they gave me my walking papers, they tried to say it was my attendance though.
Thanku bunches@akulahawk

You will do fine. Make sure to study, ask your instructor for clarification when needed ( that is what they are there for), and maintain a healthy social life. Having a social life is important and possible while in school. You need an outlet to help maintain your sanity. Best wishes!!!!
