Magz 53, where can you get a BSN in 15months? Are you talking about the fast track programs for people with a Bachelors in something else getting a BSN?

NurseChick they use that same story at my hospital about the COWS. I think it is a nurse urban legend.

No, seriously, it REALLY happened! Had a little "in service" about using the word "cow" while in the hallways esp. next to pt. rooms. :lol2:

I'm looking at a program at a private Christian University where I can get my BSN in 16 months, once a week classes. I have an ADN.

my pet peeves are the use of the word nauseous vs. nauseated and mucus vs. mucous. One could go on and on......the plural of uterus being uteri and not uteruses. We are not allowed to use chemical symbols in our charting.....ie. MgSo4, FeSo4, Na, K etc. We have to write the word out. I think it is the dumbing down of America's educational system.........not the fault of nurses. I do think they are letting people out of nursing schools that never would have been admitted years ago. Schools are desperate for $$$ and have lowered standards. BSN programs in this area ( for RN's ) are 15 months of once a week, no tests, no clinical. Basically one can purchase a BSN today.....but that may be another thread.

The reason MgSo4 nd FeSo4 and Na and K are not being used is med errors. Not that people haven't learned "chemical symbols".

MgSO4 is a big no-no where I am. Too easily confused with MSO4 and vice versa.

I don't think nurses are stupid at all. I think that comment is rather inflammatory, as a matter of fact.

This thread nearly 4 years old , by the way.

I did not say nurses are stupid. I said nurses who say "sonameter" and actually think there is such a thing as a "sonameter" sound stupid to the scientific community.

I'm guessing you are a nurse who says "sonameter".

On Monday we had a representative from a company that makes C-paps and Bi-paps come and talk . . . . he said "sonameter". I had to chuckle thinking of this thread.

Well then, I am sorry to disappoint you; you guessed wrong. But I had a very educated and experienced OB instuctor/professor in school who did say "sonometer" and she was FAR from stupid-sounding to ANYONE. And I would not presume to know how the scientific community as a whole feels, but I know a lot of experienced doctors and nurses who do use this word and they do not sound stupid to me, either.

Anyhow, Let us agree to disagree and keep from using labels when making our points, if possible.
