To repeat or drop HEELLP!

Hi... after getting A in AP 1, I am struggling with AP2. I am considering dropping the subject and jus retake it again in the next semester. However, I am not sure which is a better option, to drop the subject and get a W or just stick it out and probably get a C. (which will definitely ruin my GPA) I dont think I will get an F. However, with a 3.8 GPA, A's in Microbio and AP1, a C in AP2 I think is so out of place. (I started working full time and still took 2 subjects which may have contributed to my low grade, then again, for the most part, I also think I had a hard time with the teaching style of our teacher). Anyway, I would like to solicit your opinions.

Also, I have an intereview coming up for Rush University's accelerated program and I am sure they will ask me how I am doing with my classes. I am so confused (and scared too) as to what to tell them. I mean, how can I explain it if I decide to drop the class? Or if I get a D or a C? arrghh this is just so frustrating.. anyway any opinions will be appreciated!

Look, you haven't gotten your final grade in AP2 yet, right? So if they ask you how you are doing in your classes, they don't really want a detailed description. You can just say, "It's keeping me busy!" which is true. People have things that come up all the time, so if you do happen to get a C in it (I would not advise dropping unless you think you are going to get a D, because W's are sometimes a lot harder to explain. It can also affect your financial aid according to some threads I've read.) then you can address it in your essay later.

Is there anyway you can pull up your grade? Extra credit? Talk with the prof and see. Get a tutor. Develop a study group or get a study buddy to go over the concepts and quiz each other. In other words, focus on that class to pull up your grade. It's so competitive now that you want to do well in all your classes, but if you have 1 anomaly, that may be OK... you just want to be able to explain it if it comes up. But since you haven't gotten the grade yet, you don't have to "tell all". Hope that makes sense. Good luck!

Take a look at why you are making this grade now. And will you do better if you repeat it?

Good luck. It's a tough course isn't it?

Wow we are on the same boat however I am already accepted into the nursing program. Last semester I was strong with a B+, and now this semester I am strugling with a B-/C. Honestly it has just given me a swift kick in thebutt to take more time reading studying!

Thanks everyone for responding to my post. As it turns out I am not the only one who is doing horrible in this class. I talked to a lot of my classmates and they are in the same boat as I am. They did awesome in AP1 but for some reason, they are also doing poorly with AP2. We all think it has something to do with the teaching style of our professor. He constantly discredit the book we use, telling us that some info in the book are wrong, he doesnt have a structure (no outlines, whatsoever), but more than anything, in my opinion, his test questions are very unclear. They are unclear to the point that most of the time, our professor would pull out questions from the test after giving us back the results since majority of the class got it incorrect.

Anyway, I talked to him and told him of my intention to withdraw, but he said to wait until the last lab practical and see. I calculated my grade and at this point I need to get at least an 80 in the lab practical and another 80 in the lecture exam just to get a flat 70% which is a C. If I miss it as much as by a point, I will end up with a D. I really do not know what to do. Would you advise that I drop and retake it again? How am I going to explain this in the interview? Or is better to finish it even with the risk of getting a D and then repeat it? Which in your opinion if more acceptable?

Thanks again.. :crying2:

Can you change the class to "Audit"? This way you do not have a D or a W on your transcript.

Do you know if retaking it later and getting an A will replace a D? If it will then I would just stick it out and learn all you can then retake it later. Is the class effecting your grade in the other classes your taking since it is time consuming.

Retaking it will replace the grade. But it will still show in the transcript that I took AP 112 this quarter, but next to it will be a grade of R which means repeat I guess. But this is not calculated in the GPA. The one that will be calculated will be the one that is the higher grade.

So which is more "decent"? A W or a R and perhaps a better grade for AP 112 should I repeat it again this coming spring quarter? Thanks everyone.. you have all been very helpful.
