Just wondering....

I simply love it:nurse:

my first course was psychology i really love the human psyche. i was in my 2nd year when my aunties in the u.s.a. kept on influencing me to take up nursing (big BIG salary), and the media was hyping things about the benefits of being a nurse. On the next semester, i enrolled to a nursing college. my previous subjects were credited and i was immediately a 2nd year Nursing Student. At first i didn't realize the depth of the career; i took things for granted, i just memorize things, i only study for the sake of passing the exams. When i was in my 3rd and 4th year and more and more hospital exposures, more patient contacts, i soon realized that being sick or being confined in the hospital is a very, very bad feeling (people have this belief, "it would happen to everybody not me") i was able to empathize with the patients and their family. i was able to feel the misery theyre experiencing and the nurse's role to 'cure' the patient,(doctors cure the disease)

i finally graduated (BSN) and looking back, im so glad that i took up nursing, not because the pay is great but by able to transcend the meaning of life, that our mere existence is to help others not ourselves. im so happy and proud to be a nurse.

It runs in the family...I have 4 aunts who are nurses and I grew up close to them so I guess they influenced me a lot.

Here's a frequent question my school asks for each prospective BSN enrollees:

CI: Why did you take up nursing?

Student: To serve humanity.

As if!!!!:trout:

When I took up nursing in 1987 my primary reason was to go abroad and help my family financially. After graduation, I did one year volunteer work and worked as a medical representive for several years.

The no. 1 reason why I went back into nursing is because I want a better future for my children. Now, they have a better future. And I really enjoy working as nurse even with the stress around but the satisfaction that I made even a little difference to somebody's life always compensate that.

I'm going to get killed for this, but the reason is....I was forced. With major coercion. The original course I'd have taken would have been a library course, or literature.

i was about to enroll as a second year student in law school when i realized that i wasnt happy with what i was doing then and that i wanted something that could give my family financial stability. thats why i opted to take nursing instead of pursuing my parent's dream of me becoming a lawyer.

and well, i wanted to go to the US so there. nursing is my passport.

First of all, i like to acquaint you with the Filipino culture. We are warm, soft, caring and nurturing people who take good care of our partner and families. Close family ties and kinship is important to us and so caring for other people is second nature to us. When we take care of our patient, we make sure that the patient gets good if not the best care. We extend care like the patient is part of family because it is inherent in us.

My primary reason was the uniform. I love it. Then my cousin encouraged me get the said profession as he also took the same; He with his goal to work in foreign countries, I with my desire to wear those uniforms and inject.

But when I really got hold of the concept of nursing during my college years, my shallow reason (loving its uniform) mutate into more profound ones. Like feeling good when you insert an IV once (not twice or thrice) to a baby's veins, feeling relieved that your CPR was a success, feeling satisfied when you alleviate the patient's worries regarding her/his operation, feeling excited as you slap instruments on a surgeon's palm, feeling worthy when getting positive responses after conducting health teaching to certain groups, feeling useful when family and neighbors run to you for aid or advise about their ailments, and more...

Nursing profession, among others, is simply beyond description...It can only be fully recognized after your healing touch and kind words has reached a patient's soul.

God bless all nurses worldwide!

i wasn't into nursing actually..it was my mom's idea..she's a nurse too.. at that time i don't know what course to enter in college so she suggested that i took up nursing..so at first i don't realy care about nursing..all i care about is just having great grades..that's all was in mind..pass all the exams, do what i have to do, pass all the projects, assignments and etc..but later on as we had our rle in the hospitals it was then there that i feel that i really want to care for the sick especially the poor..it feels wonderful to helped and care for them..i really am glad that i followed my mom's advice..mom's knows best..:)
