To Filipino Nurses in NEW ZEALAND? Have questions please..

Good day!

I am considering trying my luck as a nurse in New Zealand.

Can anyone here help me and tell me what to expect in the 2-3months competency assessment? Is it really like attending formal school where you have lectures, exams, reports? Anyone ever failed that??

How long does it take to get a working visa after registering with NCNZ, provided of course one passed the assessment? How long does it take to get permanent residency?

How do I find a good consulting agency that can help me with the processing? Or dont I need one anymore?

I also would appreciate it if Filipino Nurses can share their experiences in NZ. Was the transition hard? How do you like the weather?

Any practical tips about starting my application to work as a nurse there besides looking at the NCNZ website?

Thanks a lot in advance!

After reading all the posts in this thread, I've come to conclusion that agencies exist because there are some people who actually don't listen to other's bad experience, and advice.

Any agency is a company, a business. Any business lives when there's money. Now, there are some greedy agency which will rip you off. On the other hand, there also some agency for business that do not take away more than enough from the nurses. But, still they get money from you on top of what you will spend when you do it all by yourself simply because they are in business.

I've been telling here for a long time that ANYONE can come here (plus all the paperworks) by themselves alone. Browse the nursing council website, phone them if you like more infos, do the queue in DFA and embassy of NZ for paperworks signing, applying for the visitors visa or student visa when the acceptance letter comes in, etc.

I'm tired in this thread. People don't listen. People, I think don't read from the very beginning of this thread as there are lots of repetitive questions for repetitive answers. I have saved one nurse already and bravely did all the application (schools and hospitals) and came here all by herself. That's enough for me. I cannot help you if you don't help yourself.

Good luck to you all.

I guess you are not a happy customer , all along I thought with the supposed "contacts" of your agency it will expidite the whole process, but hey they were not able to do anything(as you said) -- its probably more of a gimik to entice more customers to use their services . Too bad.. Anyway goodluck with your search for a CAP sponsor.

What the agency said about "contacts" and it will expedite the process is a baloney! You cannot expedite the process here in NZ! Everything is according to some guidelines and procedures. There is no such as "friends" or "malakas" here!

please be reminded that any hospital or facility who are willing to sponsor your the cap and accommodation (for the period of time you are taking your cap) will sign you for a minimum of 2 year contract. now, this is fair enough but be sure you are not going to receive a rate lower than nz$23-24/hr. take note of this!!! may it be a nursing home or tertiary hospitals, the rate should not be lower than this. if they give you higher, well and good.

for your information: agency gets a huge amount of money from hospitals or nursing homes that want to employ you (some call it "finders' fee"). and if you shoulder your own cap and signed for a 1-2 year contract lower than $24, then my dear, you were in deep @$$%$%^! you know what i mean, so get out of it. because, as a matter of fact, that money the agency (of course you don't know this as no agency will disclose this to you) got from the hospital is actually for your cap! yes! bwahahaha!!! and you don't know this, ei? another bwahahaha!!!

that is why, if you do everything on your own, find a sponsor and they want you for 2 years contract, that's fair enough! or if you cannot find a sponsor, pay your own cap and apply directly to any hospitals or nursing homes or legitimate bureau agency in nz. the money you are willing to pay your recruitment/consultancy agency is the money you can actually use by your own to do your stuff.

good luck! unless you're idiot!

thanks for the warnings penicillin8!

that was really honest. and i again thank you for that. everything u said is true. it was just a few days ago that i read this thread, and i hired an agency months ago so dont blame me for not reading the thread thoroughly. although by now i have read everything in this thread.

with all the information i got from this thread and other numerous sources, i know what to avoid. HOWEVER, it doesn't change the fact that i already partially paid the ageny. may it be a mistake or not, at this point i dont care so long as my papers are getting processed. sure, i could have avoided paying the agency, but i can't do anything about it now. what i can do now is to do the remaining leg work on my own.

don't worry, if i do fin a health care facility that would sponsor my CAP, i'll be sure to take in mind the things that u mentioned (rate per hour, location, other benefits) THANKS AGAIN. I'll take that goodluck hehe :thankya:

to deckyjoe,

Hi! I also came from baguio! were in the same boat right now. I am also currently looking for hospitals and facilities that could sponsor my CAP. Can we correspond thru email so we could update each other when oppurtunity comes?

Thank you!

hmm, i cant send private messages yet coz i haven't posted enough on the thread/sites (u need atleast 15 posts by the way hehe) so i cant contact u yet,

just an update everyone, i have received my acceptance letter from the nursing council of new zealand just today, dated july 13. now i have to look for my own school for the CAP, any suggestions? hehe with sponsorships perhaps? hehe

to decky and norificemeow:

if you intend to have your cap sponsored, you could apply directly to agencies in NZ e.g. westcoast, enterprise and others.

some offered direct sponsorship for cap and airfare while others would offer reimbursement. but i believe most of the school are full until oct or nov.

i have submitted my application for cap late june and i got the nov slot

hi appetite! thanks for the reply, so are you already in new zealand? i mean what step are you in the process? what kind of agencies did you mention? recruitment agencies or health care facilities? i hired an agency (which i regret a bit coz i could have saved some money) here in the phils, but i was hoping to find a sponsor on my own so i could money.

im still here in manila decky. since my sched for cap will start on nov, i will leave for nz most probably last week of oct in order to save from further expenses.

i am also under a local agency, but no placement fee.

awww, its sad that you hired an agency here.

my expenses for cap and airfare would be reimburse by my employer after the said program.

hello again appetite, yeah hiring an agency is one costly mistake hehe, but what the heck, they were able to get my approval/acceptance letter and i can't do anything bout it now anyway. may i ask the name of your agency/employer? and what are the other agencies in NZ that can probably help me with my CAP? thanks for the reply!
