Here's our chance to do something about it.

Specializes in ER.

I have half a dozen nurses in my family and I was sure they were all just like Margaret Hollahan (sp?) on MASH. That's part of the reason nursing was so attractive to me- because the TV showed me I could make a difference in people's lives.

Specializes in 5 yrs OR, ASU Pre-Op 2 yr. ER.

The Margaret Houlihan character from M*A*S*H may be fictional but she still represents how i'd like to be: a d*mn good nurse and a great nursing leader.

Major Hoolihan rocked..She didn't take crap from anyone including the docs and always was there for her pts and other nurses!

Specializes in Adult ICU/PICU/NICU.

I actually like ER, its one of the few shows that I make time for, though I wish they would give the nurses a more substantial role. I know most of its far fetched, but if I was too realistic, they wouldn't have a show.

I have a funny story about ER. One evening about 8 years ago, I had agreed to work an extra 3-7pm after my day shift . My stable crain who was sitting up and talking suddenly started vomitting blood and became increasing sluggish. We ended up taking him to CT and then rushing him to the OR to stop a bleed. As we were rushing him to the OR I looked at the clock and said "I'm missing ER!". My friend looked at me and said "missing it, we're living it!!!"
