Happy Monday! Already today I have seen a kinder that reports being up at 10pm and a 3rd grader up at 4am watching Youtube! Of course they have a headache! Anyone have a good handout with sleep education for children?
It's so surprising hearing that for elementary students. My High Schoolers do this all the time and come to the clinic and ask to take a nap. My clinic is not a lay down clinic unless you are very sick. I consider coming to school tired because of staying up too late to be a behavioral issue and not a medical one. When a teacher sends a student to the clinic who is tired or sleeping in class, I assess to ensure there is nothing medical going on. If not, I have them to splash their faces with cold water and return them to class. Being tired is a consequence of not going to bed early enough. I will inform the parent, and inform the teacher to refer if the behavior continues.

you can choose the print icon but its three pages ?. maybe make your own handout that is shorter?
backed by the american academy of pediatrics.
that being said I have had a super rough time getting my 4 year old back on schedule! she has always been the bedtime fighter. one more story, one more drink, play one more thing. I have not done myself any favors letting her stay up late over break and sleep in. she is so not a morning person.
