Tips on Talking with Nurse Recruiters?

Hello! I am going to be a new grad in the spring and I have recently attended a job fair where I was able to get some contact information for various nurse recruiters at the hospitals I am interested in. I would like to begin contact with these hospitals so that at least they have my name in their file system.

However, I am not sure what to say when I call them. Do I call and ask to set up a time to speak with the recruiter? Should I e-mail them first and then call? I am not sure how to go about this. At the job fair, I did have many of my general questions answered. What else can I talk to them about that would show my interest and would lead to an interview?

You sound a little like me. And I have a phobia about phones and phone calls to begin with. So I force myself to go in person to HR offices of potential employers with resume and a list of info for job apps in hand, prepared with my famous question/statement (the only one I can ever remember): "I need a job!"

I am in the same situation as the OP, however it has been my experience that you get the best results by calling them and telling them that you enjoyed speaking to them at such and such job fair and are interested in submitting an application (and whatever else is necessary for the job application process, i.e. resume, transcripts, reference letters).

Usually nurse recruiters function as gatekeepers. It is the nurse managers that you want to speak with.

i think emailing or calling would be fine. i prefer email to set up an appointment--as most hospitals refer you to their website to fill out an online application/resume. once contact has been established, calling as needed seems like it's less intimidating.
