Tips on getting into correctional nursing in NJ

Specialties Correctional

Published

Hi,  I'm a RN (ADN) in the lower north/central NJ area.

I have 1 yr of OR exp and 1 yr of home care exp. - along with 3 yrs of military time.

I'd like to get into correctional nursing - the only job opportunities I see are from agencies on Indeed.
I'd much rather get into the city/county/state type positions (for a career/longterm benefits).
Does anyone have any information that could help in this process?

Thanks

some are state jobs so look at the state website, some states contract companies to provide health are to the inmates.

Hi DEADPOOH,

Go to USAJOBS to find federal correctional nurse jobs. They offer pension, benefits and they also have a special program for medical professionals under 43 that boosts your opportunities. Your background sounds like a good fit for federal service.

Beware of private companies esp those out of Tennessee-nothing against  it is that they migrated there-I'm just saying,,,,,

Hello

I don't know if you know but Rutgers University has correctional nursing postions throughout the state. I know nurses who have applied recently and had interviews. (ADN and BSN nurses). Also Rutgers is a state university so you will have state benefits which are great!

Go to rutgers university website and look for job opportunities. Under “work location”choose “off campus” and that should take you to the correctional nursing positions.
see the link below.

Hope this helps
