Hello guys! I want to switch specialty and really into dialysis. I applied in Davita and they gave me a phone interview. From what I researched, they all give phone interview for applicants as part of their screening. Any tips on this? Thank you'l!
I don't know if anyone here can tell you what they will ask, since you will be interviewing with different people than we did (presumably), but as long as they know that you will be brand new to dialysis, I can't imagine them asking you about how a dialysis machine works. Their training covers that from the bottom up so they realize that you don't have that type of knowledge yet.
At this point, they will probably want to know, as in any interview for any nursing position, what kind of team player you are, how you react in an emergency situation, what kind of attendance record you have, etc., etc. The basic stuff that makes a good employee, dialysis training to be added later.
I got some specific dialysis questions, e.g. how would I advise a patient who consistently comes in fluid overloaded and states it's because they feel thirsty all the time, but that was because they knew that I had already worked in chronic dialysis and we had discussed some of the challenges, such as patients consistently coming in several kilos above their dry weight. I would have never been able to answer those questions when I interviewed for my first dialysis job, and I think any competent manager realizes this when interviewing someone without dialysis experience.
Just be yourself, act confident, and be ready for those routine questions that seem to pop up in every nursing interview like, "Name a time when you had to advocate for a patient", or, "Name a time when you saw a co-worker doing something wrong and how you handled it". You know...those basic character questions that I never seem to be prepared for in interviews (although they haven't stopped me from getting jobs, lol).
Good luck to you!
Hi guys! I'm a new grad (BSN) and just applied to DaVita STAR Staff Registered Nurse position and I am wondering how long after you applied you got your phone interview? I don't have experience but it said I would be trained for 9-10 weeks. Has anyone gone through this program before?
Any information is greatly appreciated.

When I applied for them. They emailed me after 2 days to set up a phone interview.
Hello...I graduated nursing school December 2015..had an interview with Davita this Tuesday...have been told to come in to "shadow" for 4 hours...does anyone know what I should expect?? Any information is appreciated..I was told this would determine if they hire me. Thank you in advance.
I just had my phone interview for Davita Acute. I had applied for both Chronic and Acute but the recruiter thought I'd be a better fit for the Acute side (though a lot of that was probably buttering me up a little since I'm sure they are short staffed). I got a lot of questions in the phone interview that were the 'tell me about a time' type questions...such as "How do you make decisions" and "Tell me about a mistake you've made and how you handled it" I guess I answered okay but I won't know for sure until I get the call for the next step...the recruiter said I will hear from the hiring manager by Friday and if not to call the recruiter back so she can call the HM herself. I'm crossing my fingers that I get the job...I need the money and I won't mind the long hours at least for awhile so that I can pay all my bills soon without having to use my credit card...

You'll want to stress your abilities to lead others, to hold your team accountable for policy and procedure. You'll want to emphasize your ability to make smart clinical decisions quickly, how you are in an emergency, and extra attention to detail.
