Hi all,
In the fall I'll be starting my first year at university (Cal State University, Bakersfield) to complete my prereqs for nursing. I went to my orientation yesterday and signed up for classes. Usually they have freshman take English 110 and Math 140 (Elementary Stats) their first quarter, but I took the English Lit and Stats AP tests and am waiting for my scores to come in on July 5th. They said since I don't know my scores yet, I can wait until they come in and if I passed then great, but if not then I can just take those courses next quarter. So they recommended putting me in Chem 101 (Intro) to prepare for Chem 211 (General Chem I), but I already took Chem 211 (as well as 212&213) during my senior year of HS through a HS Academy program at CSUB.
So, long story short, they ended up putting me in Anatomy for my 1st quarter (as well as Logical Reasoning along with a required CSUB 101 seminar and a Philosophy class that's required for the honors program). I've heard Anatomy and Physiology can be pretty brutal (physiology even more so than anatomy), so I was wondering if anyone who has been through Anatomy already had any tips? Are there any websites/books that can help make the class a bit easier?
Thanks!
This website was VERY helpful: Web Anatomy: Self Tests
Do all of the quizzes on it, play the "games", etc. You will know your anatomy well by the time you've mastered it.
I printed diagrams and used white out to cover the labels....I slid them in plastic sheet protectors so I could use a dry erase marker to label them over and over......this is what helped me get my anatomy down.....flash cards helped some but actively labeling repeatedly helped me a ton....since labeling was most of the anatomy portions of our exams....the physiology section I made note cards and reread the chapters repeatedly....(A&P are one class together at my school)
I like this idea :)
Here is another cool video i found on youtube
I had to take A&P for EMT. It's all memorization, so be prepared to study. If you have a good teacher, you'll be forced to study because you'll have a pop quiz every couple days over different muscles.
If you can, print off some pictures from online of an entire 'system' of muscles and color everything red. My teacher wanted us to use different colors, but odds are they'll all be the same color on a test. It may not seem like a big difference, but trust me, it's tough!
Oh, and try and compare different regions to things you can remember. For example, Axillary-Axe-people spray body spray there.

RECORD LECTURES! especially if your professor talks a lot/quickly! Don't only jot down whatever's on professors ppt, also take your OWN notes. when class is over, review what you just learned! even if it's for 10mins. You will retain the info that way & it'll stay in your long term memory.. FLASHCARDS. whether you buy them or make them yourself, whatever use them & make them your besties!... YouTube!!! If I didn't understand a concept in the physiology aspect of it all, I would go to YouTube immediately and watch lectures from other colleges & it would be so much simpler to understand. OR go To a tutor. It's free, so why not take advantage?
review review review what you learned during the week and what you learned previously. The KEY to passing AP1/2 is memorization. The more you see it, the more info you retain & the more successful you become. This seems like a lot of work, trust me I know but I'd rather work my booty off and not worry about a thing at the end of the day bc I did what I had to do to succeed.. Btw I passed with a B+
